Back in early December we broke the news that the International Square Food Court would be closing (RIP Stoupsy’s foreva.) Thanks to a reader for passing on some plans for what’s coming via Bisnow:
“The food court inside International Square and street-level restaurant Prequel both closed last month. Tishman Speyer’s email to tenants said it plans to add a food hall to the building’s street level with about 20 carefully curated vendors and a bar. The owner also plans to add two new full-service restaurants and a boutique grocer to the street level, plus an additional restaurant to the lower level, the email said.”
I’ve already heard one rumor of a Whole Foods… STAY TUNED.

So much for that groundbreaking in, checks notes, 2016… Washington Business Journal reports: “Appeals court indefinitely bars demolition at McMillan site”
Not exactly the same, obviously, but let us remember that the Uline Arena was a parking lot for many many years too and is now home to REI, Red Bear and more.

1721 Kalorama Road, NW via Jubilee Housing
Thanks to Joan for passing on from Jubilee Housing:
“Jubilee Housing’s latest acquisition is unique in many ways.
King Emmanuel Baptist Church sits at 1721 Kalorama Road NW and has been part of the Adams Morgan community since 1907. The church has an active congregation, which includes Jubilee Housing residents and staff members. So, when Jubilee heard that the congregation was looking to sell the church, the Property Development team jumped at the chance to preserve a historic landmark in one of the organization’s core neighborhoods.
Jubilee offered the congregation a chance to stay and worship at King Emmanuel after renovations, but church members decided to relocate the congregation to Maryland. (more…)

Thanks to Nita for sending from 11th Street in between Bad Saint and Room 11: “Apparently they tore down the building.” Anyone know the plans for the former Hair Salon here?

Zack asks: “Some active work going on inside long vacant Republic Gardens on U St – any idea what’s going on, PoPville?”
Back in May we learned that a new bar called Alice was planned for the retail space at the former State of the Union next door:
“A new Retailer’s Class C Tavern with a seating capacity of 225 and a Total Occupancy Load of 325. Rooftop Summer Garden on the second floor with 70 seats. Licensee is requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to include Dancing and Cover Charge inside the premises only.”
Currently:

UPDATE: Alice is still coming and I’m told another restaurant is coming too but there won’t be condos. Stay tuned.
