“Dear PoPville,

I did my required car inspection two days ago at 1PM. After I finished the inspection I went online to pay for it before my inspection expires on Jul 20th. The site has been down, saying it will go back online the next morning.

When I checked the next morning, Jul 19th it said it will be back that evening by 6pm.
This keeps on happening again and again. Not only does the site stay down, they keep changing not only the time it will be back online but the time it went down! Basically, they are lying the site has only been down since yesterday, where it has been down for at least 2 days.

The problem is that now that my inspection expired and I haven’t paid for the new one I will get charged with penalty fees – $20 per day. And there’s nothing I can do about it! The site is down, obviously someone fked up or did something terribly wrong because their original estimation of yesterday is far off and it’s still down, and they just blantly lie about the downtime.

This is from yesterday: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Someone at Chaplin’s parks his very large Mercedes SUV in the same tow away zone located directly in front of the main entrance at the corner of 9th and P St, NW every time they visit and/or is working at the location. They are not loading/unloading; rather they park there the entire day. The place where they park is clearly marked as NO STANDING OR PARKING ANYTIME, yet every time I pass the restaurant, the same black SUV that belongs to them is illegally parked and to the best of my knowledge, has not received a ticket or been towed for parking illegally. This illegal parking creates a potentially dangerous situation should emergency vehicles like fire and/or EMS need to access Chaplin’s or the surrounding structures. (more…)

Not a question I ever thought I’d see… All those snakes, hawks, foxes, owls etc. must be working overtime?

“Dear PoPville,

Where did the rats go this summer?

I live next to Kalorama Park (where I am a park volunteer for 30 years now). I walk 3 1/2 miles a day in & around Adams Morgan & have seen virtually ZERO rats. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have been renting an apartment that uses third-party billing (Conservice) to manage the building’s utility fees for several years. I recently moved out to my own place and I added someone to my lease so that she could take over, but there was a one-week gap between me moving out and her moving in. I’m a foreigner and I didn’t know that utilities need to be in the residents’ name at all times, so now I have received a Conservice bill of US$75 for this period (US$50 “vacant service fee” and US$25 “vacant electric fee”). Is this legal? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My family decided on take out pizza last night after we finished rugby practice with Washington, DC Youth Rugby. My wife phoned the order in to Pete’s and I drove over to Pete’s to pick it up and drive home. Fairly normal until I arrived at the restaurant and saw a note on the door from the restaurant explaining they now charge 20% for diner eating at Pete’s, and 10% for take out orders. This was their response to Proposition 82.

I’m ok with the 20% charge for diners staying at Pete’s to eat. That’s what I would have tipped anyway.

10% for take out orders is crazy though. (more…)
