“Dear PoPville,

I am currently a chemotherapy patient for nine weeks and am very concerned in the ability for DC Health to process my application for medicinal marijuana in Washington, DC. It has already been 10 days of treatment. I have already sent in the money order and my doctor has approved my application.

Does anyone have any tips of if going to DC Health or a specific phone number to actually get in touch with someone is possible?

Any tips of the process greatly appreciated.”

Update: “This ‘Verizon’ gentleman tried to let himself into my home.” Check out the video.

“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone else encountered the the youngish looking guys in neon yellow shirts and vests stating they are from Verizon? Three came to my door, in what appeared to be scam. They said they had recently installed new cable in the area (doubt it) and wanted to let me know about new benefits. They continued to ask who my provider was and if I was happy with them.

When I said if you worked for Verizon you would know who provided my cable, they mumbled something about a mistake and were off to the next house. Given that it was three guys, I assumed they were running a “knock on the door and let themselves in” type of operation. What do you think real Verizon guys, or scam robbery in disguise?”

“Dear PoPville,

The ATF has released their report on the Arthur Capper Fire at the senior home in Navy Yard a few months ago. To say the findings are disturbing is an understatement.

· Investigators ruled out electrical or other mechanical causes of the fire, saying it was likely the result of human activity in the attic.

· There was clear evidence someone tried to put the fire out with a garden house from the roof just after it started. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have been talking to a few neighbors who (like me) have gotten a head start on our taxes this year and have been floored by the increase we owe over 2018. We are all pretty typical middle class city types with mortgages, kids and 2 working adults and have seen our Federal Taxes go up by almost 40%.

This got me wondering:

1. How many others are in the same situation? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Update to “Folks parking there would have had every reason to believe that any “snow emergency” was long since over.”

I contested my $250 ticket by saying sorry. I finally got a letter back from DC this week that basically stated they still found me guilty on all counts, but they would be decreasing my fee down to $100. I’ll take it! A few minutes of effort saved me $150, totally seems worth it!”

“Dear PoPville,

I booked my first Thumbtack handyman session for this weekend and am feeling nervous about having a stranger in my home. I won’t be alone and the handyman has great reviews, so I’m probably overthinking it. Has anyone used Thumbtack before? Anything I should know in advance?”

“Dear PoPville,

I write not because several of our trash bins on the lower 2100 block of 15th Street NW (homes just north of St Augustine Catholic Church) were overlooked yesterday…

I write because of how incredibly well, quickly and professionally it was remedied. And the manager to whom all credit is due is named Lloyd Goodwin (I hope I have this spelling correct, too.) I called this morning to report the (small) oversight (and fully understandable as I told Mr. Goodwin given the dicey weather yesterday) and Mr. Goodwin promised that he would personally see to it that our bins were emptied immediately. Little did I expect that by “immediately” he meant less than 5 minutes from the time we hung up. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Wondering if I missed the message on this. I thought trees were getting picked up mid January, but W Street NW looks Christmas tree death row. Any insight would be appreciated.”

“Dear PoPville,

Since I am not getting a lot of help from local authorities, a friend suggested contacting you. Have you had any complaints or comments about a certain restaurant on 17th street dumping their waste in/on local residents garbage cans or parking spots? This takes place in the alley between Corcoran and R streets and 17th and New Hampshire. I’ve had to dispose of about 30 bags of their trash. I also followed a restaurant worker, after dumping on a neighbor, back to the restaurant on the east side of 17th on the ally. Can neighbors be aware and contact DC police or the ANC if they spot this happening? I am not sure if that is the only restaurant but it is illegal and adding to the increase in the rat population. I have filed a police report but have not heard anything yet so I thought I’d try all my options.”

“Dear PoPville,

Logan Tavern is a neighbor and they were doing construction work last night from approximately midnight to 1:30am. The noise woke up a ton of people in my building. Several of us went to investigate what was going on and found several restaurant managers overseeing the work. They refused to stop despite our pleas that it was 1am. Any ideas what recourse should be taken? Having a hard time navigating DC’s website with respect to this issue. Turn up the volume in the attached video to hear what it sounded like. Hell.” (more…)
