“in this day and age of righteous indignity and negative raging on social media about government’s and management’s faults and shortcomings, I officially want to go record as saying that Mr. Goodwin is among DC’s best”

“Dear PoPville,

I write not because several of our trash bins on the lower 2100 block of 15th Street NW (homes just north of St Augustine Catholic Church) were overlooked yesterday…

I write because of how incredibly well, quickly and professionally it was remedied. And the manager to whom all credit is due is named Lloyd Goodwin (I hope I have this spelling correct, too.) I called this morning to report the (small) oversight (and fully understandable as I told Mr. Goodwin given the dicey weather yesterday) and Mr. Goodwin promised that he would personally see to it that our bins were emptied immediately. Little did I expect that by “immediately” he meant less than 5 minutes from the time we hung up.

I have had a few other (also small) instances with trash & recycling over the past few years and not only has Manager Goodwin corrected them with similar efficiency but he has told he would personally “ride” the pickup and has even offered to meet me out front which regrettable I have not yet been able to do so I could personally shake his hand and thank him.

Anyway, in this day and age of righteous indignity and negative raging on social media about government’s and management’s faults and shortcomings, I officially want to go record as saying that Mr. Goodwin is among DC’s best and a glowing, shining tribute to what I can plainly see on the dpw.dc.gov website is a concerted effort to transparently improve the quality of DPW services. Seriously, what a model manager, and one — being in the service industry myself — we and I can take a good lesson from!

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
