“Dear PoPville,

I’m having trouble finding a reasonably priced moving company for labor only. I will be renting a U-Haul truck and driving the inventory long distance myself, back to Boston. I just need 2-3 guys to help load all the boxes and large furniture from the house. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated!”

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I are expecting our first at the end of August. We’ve been living in the city for eight years now and enjoy walking to our local beer garden (shoutout to Midlands) or getting coffee at Harrar. We will proudly fight anyone who says that it is necessary to move out of the city to raise a child.

Obviously life is about to change, so we’re curious what baby life is like in the city? What are the bars and restaurants that are friendly or that you took your baby to when they were young? Are there any resources in the city that you took advantage of when you had a baby? What’s the best thing about parenting in the district?

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have recommendations for technicians who can diagnose and repair window air conditioners and provide in home service? I know that it’s often more economical to just buy a new one, but I have a nearly new, ultra quiet high end unit that works great but suddenly got noisy, making me think it could be a simple fan adjustment or something. If I can get it looked at for under $100, I’d like to try it before buying a new one.”

“Dear PoPville,

Though i grew up getting crabs in Maryland my entire life I have no idea where to get crabs around DC or even how much a bushel costs.. I’m trying to throw a cookout since I haven’t had my yearly crab feast. Just wondering where is the best place to go to get some bushels of crabs?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m curious if you’ve posted previously on seeking recommendations for any great dog training services in DC, with preference to any they do at home training. I am currently fostering to adopt dog #2 and he’s a bit unruly and destructive. And I’d like to nip that in the bud before dog #1 gets any ideas.”

“Dear PoPville,

I live on Girard ST NW between 11th and 13th. Yesterday, emergency no parking signs popped up throughout the entire street. But these signs say 4 spots total but are not spaced over 4 spots but up and down the entire block (both sides) with the arrows not creating any real start/end. The dates say 7/25 – 8/22 for Mon – Sat 9:30am – 3:30pm. Is there anyway we can fight these signs or contact someone to show they are not used properly?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been meeting to write in about this for a few weeks but finally got around to it after seeing the Kelvin post.  Placement of this sign on M St. & South Capitol St. SE for the new Envy condo building made me snort-laugh walking home from work the other day–it’s right next to a Catholic church.  Maybe the developer was thinking that once residents buy into “a lifestyle to covet” (their language, not mine) they’ll hit up Saint Vincent De Paul to repent?  I get that they’re trying to play off the N St. address, but seriously… smh.”

“Dear PoPville,

We are looking for a great co-ed baby shower location in dc? Nothing too frilly or fancy- for about 30-40 people. A venue where we pay for food/drink but not space would be great, but isn’t required. We also don’t need a sit-down lunch- more like appetizers and finger foods. We are open to all kinds of ideas: restaurants, breweries, good rooftops, anything.”

“Dear PoPville,

What are some good DC-area donation centers for clothes and small household items? I have a bunch of items that aren’t nice enough for a consignment store but are in good enough shape that someone could definitely use them. Think clothing basics, mugs, cheap-but-cute shoes, that kind of thing. It’s the kind of stuff that I know Goodwill/Value Village/Salvation Army would take, but I’d prefer that it go somewhere local and without the sketchy politics/resale issues that plague big chains. My preference is for a place that will take it all, but I could do multiple stops if I need to (ie, one for clothing and another for household things).”
