“Dear PoPville,

There have been a couple of questions about good tailors every few years on PoPville. But there haven’t been any specifically for women. There is just no way for me to buy an off the rack blazer and have it fit properly. Women obviously have different tailoring needs than men, and its often hard to find someone who can handle them – just because someone can hem pants well doesn’t mean they know how to tailor around breasts. I’m hoping PoPville’s hive mind can identify some good ones in the district (and I’ll go to MD/VA if needed). Thanks!”

“Dear Popville-

I’m leaving my job after what has been a very toxic year at my company. I’m still looking for another permanent position but I know that might be a little difficult heading into the holiday season. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for some gig, temp, or freelance work? (I don’t have a car so any of the driver apps won’t work)

Thank you!

“Dear PoPville,

We could use the community’s help/recommendations. We are renovating a small bathroom and need a recommendation of where to go to select our finishes. (i.e. tile, prefab shower stall, lighting) We already have a contractor who will gut and install everything but we are responsible for making the purchases.. The design centers I’m finding online look like you need to also use them for the installation. People are always posting horror stories about Home Depot/Lowes so I’m just not sure where to go.

Any recommendations/tips would be greatly appreciated!”

“Dear PoPville,

I bought a bigger bed and need to get rid of my old mattress. It’s in good condition and I’d like to donate it, if possible, rather than simply trash it. Do any readers have suggestions for a local charity that will accept it? It would be even better if the charity could pick it up.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if anyone has used a career coach and if so what their experience was. I’m a mid career lawyer and looking for a change. The problem is I just don’t know what I want to be when I grow up!”

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to share with you my latest masterpiece… I call it “Porta Potties of the Sky.”

Artist Notes: October, 9 2019. Digital photography. I was walking to work this morning along I St SE when four porta potties soared majestically through the air and landed on the roof of a building under construction. Unfortunately my camera phone lens was a bit foggy and I had only a quick second to catch the spectacular event (and I was talking to my mom on the phone and had to cut her off mid-sentence–sorry mom!), so it didn’t turn out as oddly beautiful as it was in real life (I’m a huge fan of sunrises and clouds–some of the prettiest pictures I’ve taken have been of the sun rising on M St. SE in the morning and the afternoon clouds walking home from work. We do live in a beautiful city). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I bike from Brookland to the Arboretum frequently. I cross NY Ave on the east side. DC just redid the crosswalk so I can’t bike through it. It is a little path thing. I don’t understand why they did this…anyone else have any ideas? The way it is now configured I was forced onto Bladensburg Ave with traffic…the very slow traffic of commuters. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

It’s been awhile (2014 and 2011) since this question came up, so I’m hoping you can help out. I’ve got a 15 year old Honda which, while it will run for years more to come, I’m ready to part with. Where in DC do people sell used cars? Is it worth trucking it out to a suburb (MD, VA, further) to sell to a place that has more drivers?”
