“Dear PoPville,

There’s a bus #buslife parked in the 3500 block of 13th Street NW, looks like they rolled up the metal plates of the bus. This bus take a lot of real state parking. Should they park this in the Raymond Education Campus few blocks away? How legal is this?” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

DC now requires all recycling to be loose and all recycling in plastic bags is thrown out. Private companies pick up the recycling from apartment buildings, but they still have to follow DC regulations. If you live in an apartment building and your recyclables go into a large container (“dumpster”), it’s most likely they still need to be loose. Some companies allow clear bags (but not grocery bags) for large quantities of recycling. Black bags are always considered trash, regardless of which bin they are in. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We recently purchased a home with a basement unit which are hoping to rent out as a furnished unit — the entire house was recently renovated but there is no separate cert of occupancy for the basement alone and all permits were for a one unit construction. The basement has one entrance (through the back yard, and access to the main house we can close off). The house is currently zoned RF-1 where 2 dwelling units may be located within the principal structure. I have been looking into the required licensing with DCRA and of course am completely confused as to what is actually necessary and applies to our property. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

So about a month ago we decided to go to Cafe Bonaparte in Georgetown for brunch, but it was closed with papered up windows and a sign about being closed for the week to paint.

However, that sign has been up since early September and their website has stated the same thing for as long.

Just wondering if anyone knew what the status of the restaurant is.”

I took a peak in the door over the weekend: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My fiance and I are just starting to plan a wedding in DC and trying our hardest not to spend a billion dollars. We’re considering a restaurant for ceremony/dinner and then headed to a bar afterwards for drinks/dancing? The wedding is around 125-150, so pretty big. But of course not everyone will go to the bar afterwards. My guess is around ~50 or so would. (Ideally, we’d do Haydees in Mount Pleasant if that’s possible.)

Any good suggestions?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m looking for a place (preferably) in DC that accepts clothing donations. I used to go to the Martha’s Table on 14th St, but that has closed since the last time I donated. Trying to avoid those bins in parking lots. Any suggestions?”

“Dear PoPville,

I recently realized that there are many interesting places around the city that I have not been to and I have been trying to fix that. I commute to work by bike and like to take a detour coming home in the evening to do some sight seeing.

My list of things to do is getting rather short at this point. I’ve been to the Titanic Memorial, Volta Lab, Catholic University, rode the Metropolitan Branch Trail (such as it is), and a bunch of other such things.

What do you think I should go to see next?”

“Dear PoPville,

Moving into a new house with a CARPETED basement. We don’t like the look or feel, and it doesn’t seem to be the right choice for a basement, dry as it may seem.

If we want something with a cool hardwood or stone look that’s moisture resistant and durable, what should we do? Thinking about vinyl block – seems like some of it looks pretty good. (more…)
