“Dear PoPville,

I am currently going through a very frustrating eviction process. I have a young gentleman living in my home, who cannot keep a job for more than a couple of weeks because he is too irresponsible and lazy to show up to work. He stopped paying rent a while ago and I have offered multiple times to let him off of his lease and let him find more affordable housing. But why, when he can live for free!

His eviction was scheduled and I was appalled that DC Housing services plans to cut him a check for almost $10,000 to pay his 7 months of back rent and prevent his eviction last minute under the ERAP program. They are fully aware that he does not have a job and will not be paying rent next month and I will most likely be starting a second eviction for him in April. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m considering starting a small side business with no intention of quitting my current job. So I’d like to ask the people of PoPville: Do you have a side hustle?

To clarify, I mean side hustle as: a source of income you created on your own in addition to your full-time job. If you do, is it just a version of what you do in your professional career? Is it a hobby/craft you turned into a side-business? Do you plan to keep it on the side or turn it into a full-time job? Is your motivation money or gaining more experience? What makes it worth it for you? I’d love to hear your experiences!”

“Dear PoPville,

I have recently found out that the Nats will not be selling individual tickets to opening day to the public due to “overwhelming demand”. You can still, however, purchase a multi game plan and get them. Between what they did with World Series tickets and this along with other questionable ticket policies I’ve decided I’m no longer going to play their game. I’ve been to every opening day they’ve ever had and unfortunately this year will come to an end.

That being said, I still plan on gathering with friends for both a 40th B-day party and to watch opening day. The hard part is picking a place that will not only be open at noon or so on Thursday but will also be fun and maybe even serve food. I’ve done a little research but am sort of coming up short. There are a few decent options, but nothing stands out right now. I was wondering if we could crowd source this?”

How about the new Walters right outside the stadium?

“Dear PoPville,

I have a friend living several states away who recently did something really nice for me.

I wanted to send them a quintessentially DC care package or gift basket without having to run all over town buying things individually.

That got me thinking, what would PoPville readers recommend? Does such a thing exist? If not, what would you include? VA and MD ideas also accepted!”

“Dear PoPville,

Happy first week of street cleaning! This whole entire side of Wallach Place NW is ticketed all the way down the block. Barely anyone remembers the first week until you come back and see that pink slip.”

Ed. Note: Fortunately those are warning tickets but the real thing is coming soon. From DPW:

“DPW will issue warnings between Monday, March 2 and Friday, March 6, to vehicles parked during the sweeping periods. After March 6, violators will be subject to $45 fines.”

“Dear PoPville,

I am getting married at AutoShop (Union Market) this fall! Very excited about the venue, but it does not include a space for the bridal party to get ready. Any recommendations for a large-ish suite or space for rent in Washington, DC for bride + 9 bridesmaids, with some natural light?”

“Dear PoPville,

I recently received a ticket in the mail for running a red light. It wasn’t even close. All three traffic lights in the intersection were green. Image attached. I was about to pay it until my wife spotted the green lights. Please check your tickets carefully! There are major flaws in the DC photo enforcement system.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping to get some advice on a pretty awful issue I’m having with Washington Gas. My service was disconnected yesterday [Thursday] – with no notice – due to an ongoing construction project next door and Washington Gas needing to run a new service line to their property. Again – I received no formal notice of this disconnection and only realized the service had been disconnected when I woke up in the morning and the temperature had dropped to 60 degrees (these have been some of the coldest days of the year so far mind you – below freezing outside).
