“Dear PoPville,
Has anyone tried this? Is it allowed? Contractors that did it? Cost?”

“Dear PoPville,
I’m wandering if the community has any suggestions or reviews on online interior design services such as Modsy, Decorilla, Decorist, or others that I’m not aware of? Our living room suffers from an identity crisis and I’m ready to face it, but we need professional help.”

“Dear PoPville,
Something truly bizarre unfolded yesterday in Dupont that was captured by our Nest cam. My roommate witnessed it from the door, and at first I dismissed the story when I arrived home but after reviewing the footage this morning (because what else is there to do at 5AM) I have to admit there is some mystery to it and I’m intrigued…
Yesterday [Friday] around 530PM a young man picks up a hose that had been watering a bush along the verge. He approaches and stares down another man walking towards him and hoses the guy down! The sprayer then places the hose down calmly and both individuals walk away. The whole incident took less than 30 seconds and never escalated beyond a “what the hell gesture” from the sprayee.
Unfortunately we don’t pay for storage so I can only provide screencaps [more below], but none of this makes sense. After watching it 4-5 times I have some theories but wanted to put it out there in hopes of hearing from either party involved!” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’d love to know what people are paying/charging for storage units inside condo buildings. I’ve been renting mine out for years to the same person, but now that they are moving out, I’m wondering what is a fair price to charge per month? It is roughly 5’x5’x8′, made of chicken wire in a locked storage room within the building.”

“Dear PoPville,
I saw the post yesterday about the two horrible traffic fatalities. The story of the young man that was killed crossing the street between Piney Branch and Dalia Street caught my attention because I live on Dalia Street, so I understand how dangerous it is to cross this street during the day, so the nighttime is even worse. My heart aches for him and his family and wanted to share a petition that was circulated through my building.
Please sign this petition: “DC Department of Transportation: Stop sign at Piney Branch and Dalia”

“Dear PoPville,
This system has been set up at the corner of Florida and 13th St, NW for over two weeks (potentially over three, but time has ceased to have meaning for me) and I cannot figure out what it is for. I have yet to see any sort of workers here with it either. I’d love to know what’s being worked on or if people have any idea what it is even for! Thanks so much!”

“Dear PoPville,
I am a small-time landlord (just one condo), and my tenant has been making late or partial payments since the pandemic started. I had some email and phone conversations with them early on, and assured them that I could not try to evict them if their April rent payment was late while they waited for various assistance programs, including expanded unemployment benefits (part of their income is from freelancing, which I knew at the outset), were implemented.
At the beginning of May, the tenant paid all of the April rent and half of the May rent. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I saw this kind man who was collecting glass on the 15th St bike lane by flashlight last night. He’s a cyclist and said it was out of self interest, but I honestly thought it was a super kind neighborly thing to do! Also as a dog owner, I super appreciate it! Thank you so much friendly glass guy–I hope you didn’t cut your hands!”

“Dear PoPville,
“Judiciary square covid testing closed today. Hope you can save others from braving the storm unnecessarily! Site was more or less abandoned when I got there, two cops told me they had just been notified it was closed today and would reopen tomorrow.”

“Dear PoPville,
Like the person who wrote in the other day with a rental/lease question, I’m writing in hoping to get some advice on a tricky lease situation. I rent a lovely 3-bedroom rowhouse in DC with 2 roommates. We’re all three on the lease together (“jointly and severally liable”), and we pay the landlord one single combined payment each month. The lease is now month-to-month, having rolled over from a year-long lease originally.
One of my roommates gave exactly 30 days’ notice to move out, and I’ve been diligently searching for a new roommate to start July 1 … and so far coming up short. (more…)
