“Dear PoPville,

I got a covid test at the Columbia Heights fire station this week and could not recommend the experience more! I was completely surprised with how efficient the setup was and how not invasive the test was- they only put the swab about 1/2 inch up my nose and my brain is still intact! I arrived about 15 minutes before they “opened” and was on my way home about 15 minutes after the line began moving.

I know that DC says I should get my results in 3-5 business days but was hoping to hear how long other readers waited for results, especially if they were tested recently.

“Dear PoPville,

Hi! I live in the 14th & U area of NW and over the past year have had several instances of my car window being smashed open for break-ins. I do not have anything of value in my car and generally do not leave anything out on the seats or anything. I’ve began to wonder if people sometimes just leave their cars unlocked to prevent the hassle/expense of dealing with a broken window – was wondering if the community had any suggestions!!”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve lived in my English Basement for about 3 years now and I’ve never had an issue with bugs/insects. Over the past 2-3 weeks I have seen a significant increase in the number of houseflies. I’ve purchased window fly strips, a sticky fly wand and one of those “Fly Bags” you fill with water and put it outside my house. The issue continues to persist and I cannot find the source of the issue. Do you have any other tips on how to remove the flies? I’m catching at least 30 a day. Is this something that will subside after the summer months or does anyone have any success stories?”

“Dear PoPville,

Am I the only one who finds this a little cringe?

I get their heart is in the “right place,” but I feel this is capitalizing on a movement and for a brand “trying to get some good name recognition.” This all seems like a marketing ploy of like “performative activism” to get people in the door and then pressure them to get a membership.”

“Dear PoPville,

My heart tells me to join the March on Washington this Friday/weekend, but I don’t feel comfortable in such a large gathering. Does anyone know of any smaller, neighborhood versions of protests/demonstrations being organized? Especially any that children are welcome at?

Thanks!
your neighbor in Woodridge”

“Dear PoPville,

I live in a high-rise “luxury” building in NW, less than 3 years old. My roommate and I were the first people to live in our unit.

In May, we noticed a minor bug problem, and called maintenance. Since then we’ve discovered we have a huge cockroach infestation. At the worst point we were killing 20+ full-sized roaches in a day. Now we see only a few a week, but they persist.

I have had to plead with our building to send out pest control multiple times, and they’ve now been out 7 times, and done an entire apartment spray 3 times where they spray the baseboards. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to know if anyone in DC has installed a Tesla Solar Roof, which is their integrated PV system on shingles as opposed to traditional solar panels on top of the roof.

Specifically, I’d love to hear from small condo buildings on their experience in dealing with Tesla, even if it was for their traditional Solar Panel system. More importantly, how did they manage any roof improvements or replacement projects concurrently with Tesla Solar Roof or Solar Panel installation. Would like to know how diligent Tesla is in dealing with DCRA and how customer service is for people in the district.”
