“Dear PoPville,
Curious if anyone has reached out about the fliers and signs in Park View about Bruce Monroe Community Park, in advance of the upcoming Comprehensive Plan Amendment hearing next week. Since the Court of Appeals case for Bruce Monroe did not go the way of the city, in the Comp Plan, it seems DC is now proposing the park change to a high density commercial zoning space. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Now that the *DC* election results are in, I’m wondering if there is a coordinated drop-off point for folks to recycle signs and/or metal stakes. A quick search online shows that the city did something like this in 2008, but has there been anything announced for 2020? I have a few signs in my yard, as do many of my neighbors.”

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been making reservations to swim laps at the various pools around DC for the past few weeks (since reopening), and have started to be completely unable to find any times, regardless of what time I’m logging on – 630am, noon, 8pm, 2am…nothing seems to show available times, at any pool. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Biked from the Hill to Penn Quarter on Tuesday night about 11pm and thought it was odd I couldn’t see the bike lanes in the dark.
And then walked along Penn by the Navy Memorial and the Archives (Penn and 7th NW) yesterday and realized both the lane markings and protective poles are gone between the Capitol and the White House.
Why are they gone?”

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been up twice this week between the hours of 3am and 4:30am because of a delivery truck for Safeway on Georgia Ave in Petworth (loud banging, automatic lift noise, beeping of the lift, the engine rumble the entire time of the large truck). I have to be up for work at 5:15am and I live in an apartment above the Safeway. Shouldn’t these delivery trucks be going to a loading dock? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Long story short, my cat of 13 years passed away from cancer a few weeks ago. The animal hospital did everything they could which I appreciated (but it was still kind of a weird experience– since due to Covid– they have an outdoor tent in a parking garage where you say goodbye, and then the medical team comes and goes so you can have your privacy and also continue to be socially distant.) In the middle of this emotional/chaotic experience, they asked what I would like to do regarding remains; and I opted to do a paw print impression thing– they said they would take care of everything for me which was great as I was in no place to shift my focus in that moment.
Cut to last Friday afternoon, I get a UPS tracking email saying a package (the paw print/memorial) is in route, and expected to deliver on Saturday 10/31. However, I see it’s going to my OLD ADDRESS. (more…)

“Dear Popville,
Any advice for how to charge an electric vehicle from a townhome in DC that does not have a garage or backyard access? I imagine we can’t be the only ones with a home built before cars, who would like to go electric. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m trying to distract myself from the election by thinking about Thanksgiving. Where are people ordering their turkeys this year? I know Whole Foods has a nice ordering system but it would be nice to support local butchers.”
Another reader asks: “I’m anticipating celebrating Thanksgiving in DC apart from family this year. I doubt I’m the only one (darn COVID!). Any leads on take out and delivery options for a special Thanksgiving meal? (more…)
