“Dear PoPville,

There’s an little known DC Code section that allows community groups to file lawsuits against properties that are being used to sell, store or manufacture illegal drugs; that are being used to unlawfully store or sell guns; or that are being used to facilitate prostitution.

Some residents in Truxton Circle have a pretty dire and threatening situation going on with a tenant on a block and we’re considering all options. Over the past 24 months, the residents and/or guests of this household have dealt drugs, brandished firearms, threatened other residents, destroyed property, spray-painted security cameras, and generally created an unlivable situation in the immediate area of the property. “Dear PoPville,

I love tamales and would also love to support some tamale makers this holiday season. Any recommendations for people to place orders by the dozen from for Christmas Eve?”

“Dear PoPville,

My entire apartment shook last night with a really loud BOOM at 3 am. Woke me up scared out of my mind. I know this happened earlier in the year too. I live right by Cardozo. Anyone else feel it?”

It had been 28 days since our last report of loud booms. Anyone else hear it last night?

not the car in question just a sweet city ride I passed on a recent walkabout

“Dear PoPville,

Online research has me going in circles and I can’t find anything quite this specific in the archives.

Basically, my parents (they live in Illinois) are graciously gifting me (I live in DC) their old car. I need some help in terms of the order of operations here: Do I have them transfer the title to me in Illinois (where I think the recipient needs an Illinois address….which I don’t have) and pay the applicable taxes associated with that and THEN have the title transferred from Illinois to DC? Or am I able to do both an ownership and location title transfer all within DC? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I never do this, but it’s 2020, so why not? I’m a single straight cis woman in her 30s who loves to bike on the weekends – it’s been the best part of the pandemic for me. On my ride yesterday [Saturday], I came across a cute guy in a blue biking top right before the bike bridge to Bladensburg sitting down on the grass off the trail. My gut reaction was to ask if he was okay (if he needed help with his bike since I carry some tools with me), and he said he was just stopping to watch the crows and thanked me for asking.

I slowed down but didn’t stop and didn’t realize until after the fact that he said something else so …. maybe he was trying to chat? Anyways, I was on a white bike with a blaze orange jacket and a pink mask.

On a side note – do you know of any resources for single adults at high risk for covid complications here in the District? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We stripped the paint off our 100 year old house and repointed. However, once the paint was removed, we discovered what looks like concrete smeared all over the bricks. Our masons used muric acid and a brush, and tried to power wash the concrete off using a little bit of pressure, but they claim they can’t get the concrete off further. They say that power washing with more pressure will damage the bricks, and sanding the bricks or chiseling the bricks will break them. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard any news on the 2021 VPP program (Visitor Parking Pass)? I think they usually start registration by now.”

Ed. Note: Been starting to get a few queries about this, I’ve emailed DDOT and will update when I hear back but I assume that because we are still in Phase Two, with most parking restrictions suspended, things have been pushed back. When registration does go live, I’ll be sure to do a new post.

Update From DDOT: “Changes are coming to the Visitor Parking Pass program for 2021! In the meantime, please keep your 2020 pass if you have one.”

Oh, the anticipation.

“Dear PoPville,

Thanksgiving Day, Prince William Forest Park. You: Chief’s Dad. Me: The smartest woman in the world. It was a fun convo and I thought you were kinda cute. Maybe we could grab a socially distanced coffee and chat camping, pups and election night drinking games some time …”
