“Dear PoPville,

Given the current COVID situation, I’d love to learn what COVID-safe activities people have discovered in the city – for example, I’ve heard of other cities that have links to graffiti art tours or other sorts of walking tours. I’m also aware of some cities that are starting various scavenger hunts for kids. I’m sure that people have found some good activities, and – if you agree – it’d be awesome if you might post this sort of question to solicit some great ideas.”

“Dear PoPville,

I keep reading about senior citizens having trouble getting vaccine appointments because it’s all online, and then they have to drive somewhere. There must be a way I (a healthy & capable internet user with a car) could help, but googling this has proven futile. Anyone have any ideas or resources? Orgs I could contact? #justwanttohelp”

Rodrigo writes: “Instead of biking, I finally took the Metro home and noticed all these sensors on the walls of L’Enfant Plaza; anyone know what these are for?”

WMATA replied: “Hi Rodrigo, good eye and great question! These sensors were put in from our Engineering Department. Happy Friday!”

Those sensors monitor geographical shifts in stations.”

“Dear Popville,

I had a missed connection this afternoon at the CVS at 14th and W NW. A neighbor in need asked me if I could lend her some money to get somewhere warm today. She needed $75, and I told her I could get her half way there.

When I went inside to the ATM a tall man with brown eyes, probably in his late 30’s, approached me and asked if he could help. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

During this COVID Era I am craving certain foods and my roots are winning out. Does anyone know if you can get peameal bacon anywhere in this area? Dying for a roast and sandwiches!!!”

and

“Anyone have recommendations on where I can get a great King Cake this February in DC?”

Some early replies on the latter: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

What is the building with two tall smoke stacks at the western end of the actual Navy Yard, just across from La Famosa? For the several weeks I have lived nearby, there has been nothing to see here. Now, for the second day in a row, there is a huge amount of smoke coming out at the bottom of the building (not even out of the smoke stacks) and a very loud whir of machinery. (more…)
