“Dear PoPville,

Would like to put it to the brave car owners of D.C.:

Can anyone recommend a reliably good car wash in the district? I’m a relatively new car owner here so I am scouting one out. Google reviews aren’t cutting it and it appears that Silver Spring is my best bet. Appreciate your trusted recommendations!”

“Dear PoPville,

A guy frequently walks his two dogs around Logan Circle. I have never seen the dogs on leash. One of them ran up to my dog, and the guy did nothing. What if my dog were anxious or reactive? It’s impossible to walk a dog past them because they take up the entire sidewalk. If you want to walk your dogs off leash, move to a farm.”

From the Department of Health: “No person owning, keeping, or having custody of a dog in the District shall permit the dog to be on any public space in the District, other than a dog park established by section 9a of the Animal Control Act of 1979, passed on 2nd reading on September 20, 2005 (Enrolled version of Bill 16-28), unless the dog is firmly secured by a substantial leash. The leash shall be held by a person capable of managing the dog.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve taken up sewing and want to make and donate reusable masks for those who need them. Do you know of any organizations / groups that would be interested?”

Ed. Note: I’ve seen some folks put these in little free libraries with a note, which seems pretty cool. Maybe put them in ziplock bags or something like that? Other ideas?

Update from DC Water: “Our guess was it might be a combined sewer outfall. The experts say it is not.
It’s a separate storm sewer that discharges to an open channel that flows to the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River.”

“Dear PoPville,

was running up Gallatin near 14th St NE near Fort Circle Parks. Saw this neat looking water or garbage management contraption at a creek outlet that flows into the Anacostia River. Do you know the name of this secret buried creek in the Queens Chapel Neighborhood?” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Getting a jump start on my spring cleaning and I’m looking to sell an old ring, no diamond but there is gold and a semi-precious gem. I was wondering if any of your readers could recommend a reputable shop or website they’ve used?”

“Dear PoPville,

Can we do a refresh of locally owned liquor stores that deliver?”

Ed. Note: Following. And please feel free to share restaurants/bars that also deliver bottles etc.

Ed. Note: Not the window in question, just a window I like a lot

“Dear PoPville,

I just bought a townhouse on H and 13th st NE (YAY!) and there are still burglar bars on the basement windows… do you think they are still necessary in that area? I’m personally an overly trusting person, but I feel like they are unnecessary in 2021. Any thoughts?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m a Columbia Heights resident looking to do a relatively small upgrade to my condo in the form of a washer/dryer addition, however I’ve hit a wall finding a good DC-area mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineer who is willing to take on a small project. I’d even pay extra to make up for the limited size of the project – would you be willing to post and see if anyone has suggestions of MEP engineers they’ve worked with? Clearly this is a thing that someone, somewhere must have accomplished!”

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I are starting to look for our first home to buy. Based on both price and proximity to our jobs, homes east of the river are appealing to us. I’m not too familiar with the area though, and wondering what others experience living in the area is like. We also have a young daughter who will start school in about 2 years, so I’m wondering about schools too. We’re looking from Anacostia/Hillcrest to Deanwood.”

“Dear PoPville,

We live about a block from Stead Park. There’s always a lot of activity going on there, especially as fitness classes have moved outside. We’ve never been bothered by the noise, but recently there have been almost nightly dance fitness classes. The music is extremely loud. Like so loud it it feels like we are blasting music in our house- and it’s almost every night. Plus, we are almost a block from the park on a high floor- we can’t be the only people affected by this. We’ve tried to find the name of the class so we can reach out and request that they follow the local noise ordinances, but haven’t been able to find anything. Can you help?
