“Dear PoPville,

On my way to work this morning, as I was attempting to clean my windshield …I turn on my wipers and realized someone removed my wiper blades.

As I continued driving to work my fuel cap indicator began to blink on my console. I pulled over thinking I needed to tighten up my fuel cap, and realized that was gone.

It would appear individuals are removing car parts from vehicles at night.

The only positive outcome is that the thieves did not vandalize my car!”

“Dear PoPville,

My partner and I will likely be moving to the West Coast in the next year-or-so, and my question to the crew is, “If you only had 1 year to ‘live it up’ in DC, what on your must-do list?” (For fun, let’s imagine this is a post-COVID world where everyone is vaccinated and it’s safe to return to restaurants, music venues, breweries, live events, etc.) (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Early Saturday evening I was in my office, which overlooks our driveway out back. I saw a car parked back there for quite a while (around 10 minutes or so), next to our car, and wondered what was going on. We were expecting someone to come by shortly and park in the driveway. Our driveway is the only parking in this alley, which dead ends just next to the two parking spots. This is a long way of saying that other than routine work from the apartment complex next door or the occasional person who walks back there not knowing it dead ends, there is no reason to be back there and certainly no reason for someone to be parked on our driveway for an extended period of time. (If they needed to be in the alley for some reason, they could park in plenty of other places).

I saw a man and woman we don’t know get in and out of the car so I walked out back to see what was happening, to let them know we were home, and to ask them to get off of our driveway. When I opened the gate (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

After not seeing their grandchildren for a year due to COVID, my in-laws are now fully vaccinated and cleared to visit! In fact, they’re considering moving to DC for a year to be closer to our family and make up for lost time with their grandkids. We fully support the idea and want to help them find a place. “Dear PoPville,

My husband and I are looking for recommendations for a woodworker/furniture maker to make a large farmhouse table (and possibly one or two other pieces). We plan for this to be an investment piece that we’ll have for many years, so we’re hoping to get some first-hand recommendations rather than hope for the best based on a handful of positive Facebook reviews. So we’re hoping to get some input from the Popville community! Anywhere that would deliver to DC works for us.”

“Dear PoPville,

Missed connection at Streets Market at 13th and Mass Ave, NW on Saturday, March 13th around 4:30pm. I arrived at the store as the same time as this guy that, although he got there first, held the door open for me like a gentlemen.

He was wearing a grey sweatshirt, black joggers and white sneakers. I’m guessing he’s a little over six foot.

We were in line at the checkout at the same time too – I was purchasing wine, he appeared to be going the healthier route with fruit.

If you see this and want to have a picnic of wine and fruit in the park, let me know.”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about passed missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m reaching out to the community to see if anyone has had experience with bathroom addition and installing a new toilet, specifically having a macerator toilet installed, the one sold at HD or Lowes?

We are in the process of renovating a room on the second floor that previously housed our washer/dryer and hot water heater units, all electric. We switched to tankless gas water heater and along with the W/D moved them out to other parts of our home that made more sense. We now have an empty room and because we already have the existing drain line, electrical power and exposed walls, adding a sink and shower isn’t too difficult. Issue comes installing a toilet, which would need to tie into our existing stack pipe. Problem is the closest stack pipe is on the opposite side of the house, and the 110yrs-old pipe would have to be cut into to add this new connection. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m at my wits end – I must have a rainbow cookie (aka Italian flag cookie) soon! Do readers have any recommendations on where to get one? I’m not looking for a fancy, upscale play on the rainbow cookie, but instead am seeking the good old fashioned ones from the nonna’s at the bakery down the street. Anything to tide me over while I wait for the vaccine pre-registration to do its magic so I can share a cookie with my very own Nonna.”

“Dear PoPville,

I had a missed connection on Thursday, March 11 around 7 pm in front of Taqueria al Lado (on 18 and Columbia).

Me: An Asian-American female, on a post-work evening stroll, walking in front of the restaurant. Black leggings, grey tee.

You: Male, dark hair, beanie, blue medical mask, eating at Taqueria al Lado with an older guy (friend?). (more…)
