“Dear PoPville,

I know this story seems too good to be true, but I promise it’s real. I am that one friend that everyone has who always has crazy stories to share to the point that I need to start wearing a body cam to capture the awkwardness.

I was in a long yellow dress walking down 16th street towards Columbia Heights, enjoying an afternoon walk while listening to a podcast. I noticed you on your knee scooter trying to get up the stairs while holding your crutches. I’m incredibly accident-prone and have been there and know what a pain in the ass it is to do anything that involves walking, let alone trying to hobble upstairs while carrying crutches and a scooter. I thought you were cute and was going to offer to help, but then I heard “on your left”.

A guy on a scooter came buzzing past us, hit a curb, and did a complete flip over his handlebar. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

One thing my fiancee and I have been discussing is our disappointment that we haven’t found a single bar around us (AdMo/DuPont/U Street area) that is checking vaccination cards. We talked (briefly) about how we’re both vaccinated, so maybe everything is okay now (or maybe it’s not). I think there was a spark, but then again, I haven’t spoken to a stranger in like a year, so….

Coda: yesterday my bike was stolen around Dupont, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

After several years of successfully finding great roommates easily for my 2 bedroom apartment, this year has been rough! I have only gotten half a dozen responses after having my posting up for over a month, normally I’d have had dozens! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Our condo association needs a new roof and some of our longest term residents are unable to afford the assessment, which will be in the thousands of dollars per unit.

These are folks who have often spent their whole lives in DC — many of whom are now retired, women, and people of color. We’ve reached out to numerous agencies in DC and while some protections exist for low income renters and house owners, condo owners fall through the cracks.

We’d be grateful for any contribution folks could make, large or small. Thanks!

“Dear PoPville,

I live in a privately owned condo unit (I rent from the landlord). For about 48 hours now there has been no hot water.

I promptly informed the landlord of the issue and he let me know he would investigate the issue right away. About 24 hours later he sent us an email from the building manager (more…)
