Thanks to James for sending: “My partner and I live in SW DC, and my sister lives in Ballston. She kindly mailed us a Holiday card on December 16, 2020, and it was JUST returned to her (August 18, 2021) because it was “not deliverable as addressed.” She has mailed things to that address more than once, so why wasn’t it delivered? And where has it been for 8 months??”

Last Christmas Card in Town is brought to you by the Friends of the White Whale Society!

Ed. Note: If any of these are you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made. We connected MC Nolan yesterday!

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday night (probably Sunday morning tbh) around 18th Street in AdMo, my friend and I were walking home in the rain and you asked if we knew any late-night food spots that weren’t pizza. You said you were in law school at George Mason and didn’t know the area as well. My mind drew a total blank otherwise I would’ve suggested El Tamarindo!

Hopefully, you’ll see this and we can go sometime.”

“Dear PoPville,

We have roman shades that can raise and lower from the bottom and the top and the strings are wearing thin or are totally broken on a few. The blinds are fabric and are still in great shape so we’d like to find someone who does repairs, but aren’t having any luck. Anyone have recommendations?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m getting ready to start a home renovation project and am trying to use DCRA’s new(ish) permit wizard. It hasn’t been working since Saturday. After waiting on hold for an hour today (Wednesday), I was told that they’re aware of the problem but had no idea of when it would be fixed and ready to use. I’d bet that I’m not the only frustrated local planning renovations has been frustrated by this glitch.”

“Dear PoPville,

This morning’s biblical event identified my gutters are overflowing in the back of my house, causing the torrent of rain to come down the middle of my rear wall and pool on the ground and seep into my basement floor (tile, thank goodness). I’m on the Hill if it matters. It’s not a huge job, but boy is it important to me. Any help would be appreciated!!”

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Petworth with my family in a single family home my wife and I purchased in 2019. This year my property tax was assessed at the Class 3 rate, though my home is very clearly not vacant and this wasn’t an issue last year. Our bill is quite high as a result. OTR says DCRA vacant buildings division needs to fix this in the computer. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was waiting for friends outside of Agora on 17th on Saturday, 8/14 around 7:45 and we caught each other’s eyes as you walked by and then you came back and introduced yourself as Nolan (with cute glasses). I was the guy in green shorts and a black patterned buttondown who was V flustered and didn’t realize until you walked away that I never gave you my number. Trying to now!”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a list of resources that KAMA DC, a volunteer-run non-profit, has compiled which lists different ways people can support Afghans arriving in the DMV area.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yvw3A2r1vT5imT9V9TShQoeN6mOGP5PZ3bbbI_OrxWA/edit?usp=sharing

We’ve listed organizations and resources by different ways of helping them – donating money, donating things, volunteering, or leveraging networks.

We’re updating this Google doc and welcome any tips about other things we should add.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m interested in hearing experiences people have had renting out their units and managing them from out of state so as to avoid getting a management company. My unit is in pretty good shape with a recently renovated kitchen and new HVAC system put in about 1.5 years ago. I’ve owned my unit for about 8 years now and haven’t had any maintenance issues the past few years so I don’t anticipate anything major coming up (knock on wood). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone who has ever driven down Park Rd NW knows there is a chronic back up between 14 and 16 St NW due to the Pine St NW light. The light changes in 9 seconds (I’m not joking!!) and causes a ridiculous back up. How can we have it changed to a different time to promote traffic flow?!
