“Dear PoPville,
I’m interested in hearing experiences people have had renting out their units and managing them from out of state so as to avoid getting a management company. My unit is in pretty good shape with a recently renovated kitchen and new HVAC system put in about 1.5 years ago. I’ve owned my unit for about 8 years now and haven’t had any maintenance issues the past few years so I don’t anticipate anything major coming up (knock on wood).
I would not be within driving distance of DC but have a flexible work schedule so I could respond quickly to any issues that come up. My building also takes care of annual maintenance services like condensate line cleaning, chimney/fireplace inspections, and dryer vent cleanings. So I’m thinking it would be feasible to avoid getting a management company to avoid the ~7% fee but am curious if/how this has worked out for others. Thanks!”
