“Dear PoPville,

As my family and I left a youth soccer match at Raymond Rec Center on Sat. morning, I spotted Ward 4 Board of Education Member Frazier O’Leary’s Benz blocking a fire hydrant at the intersection of Quebec Pl and 10th St NW. The hazards were not on, and nothing suggested the driver’s return was imminent. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been in and out of town over the past few weeks and so I haven’t had a chance to pick up my dry cleaning from the Sun Cleaners on 14th (beside Shake Shack). I went this morning to grab it and it’s gone – nothing inside but cleaning supplies and no note on the door. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was at the Pigeons Playing Ping Pong show last Friday (10/29) at the Anthem dancing my face off, in my element, throwing my hair around, jumping, singing, and just generally grooving to the funk. There happened to be an objectively attractive concertgoer near me in “the flock” (i.e., the Pigeons fanbase) exuding extreme confidence in a colorful cowboy hat, pink sunglasses, and assless chaps (it was Halloween after all). To my surprise, she approached me after the show to compliment my curly, untamed hair and ask my hair product of choice. Caught entirely off guard, I returned the compliment remarking on her sunglasses and we chatted for a bit – her name was Emily. With her friends and mine departing, we split ways and still a bit bewildered, I forgot to exchange numbers in what was clearly a moment. Find me Emily!

Sincerely,
Pigeon seeking a ping pong partner”

“Dear PoPville,

So an elderly woman who lives alone on our block became trapped in her house this week, with her cell phone out of reach, but thank goodness a neighbor heard her, was able to talk to her through her mail slot, and called the Fire Department to help get her out since they could not get the door open. Fortunately, she was fine–but this made me think about another elderly woman who also lives alone in the house right next to our house.

Our nextdoor neighbor is very reclusive and does not come out much except to go to the grocery store periodically, seemingly has no friends or family, and her house honestly looks like no one lives there (which is what we assumed when we first moved in, until we saw her come out one day to walk to the grocery store). My husband and I have tried to be friendly when we see her, offered to carry her groceries up her steps (though she always declines), and always try to say hi.

So…it occurs to me that we have not seen her in a while. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Wednesday, late afternoon, he (in a beige colored beanie and black jacket?) was crossing (but more like J walking…) the street in front of Le Diplomate with a friend. I, pulling up to the red light in my car, late for my yoga class and flustered wearing a red zip up, looked up and caught his gaze as he tried to determine if I was going to stop and let them cross or not. “Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have advice on how to handle this situation? 8+ weeks ago I went to the Georgetown DMV to get a drivers license. Brought all the necessary paperwork, posed for the photo, paid, etc.

It still has not arrived via mail to my home (more…)
