“terrible intersection design at Georgia Ave and Park Rd NW”

“Dear PoPville,

Can we please discuss the terrible intersection design at Georgia Ave and Park Rd NW? The signage and signals make it so unclear what drivers should do and I witness daily road rage incidents because of it.

Are drivers supposed to come to a complete stop after turning onto Georgia Ave since they are immediately presented with a red light and you typically aren’t allowed to turn left across traffic on a red? Some drivers come to an immediate stop once they turn right onto Georgia Ave, which angers drivers behind them, and I’ve seen some of those angry drivers speed around the stopped cars (more…)

Is it me, or do there seem to be more abandoned shopping carts all around the city? I keep finding empty/abandoned carts all over NE and NW. But especially in the vicinity of the Giant at City Market (though I keep finding their carts ten blocks away). Some recent pictures of carts randomly scattered around the city.” (more…)

“Old DC Water Pipes – What are we really drinking?”

“Dear PoPville,

This is a bit long, but I’m reaching out to you about the water pipes in DC in hopes that a fellow Washingtonian might have successfully resolved a similar issue and could offer some guidance! As we hear from the water reports, DC Water has high standards for tap water, drinking straight out of the sink faucet is encouraged. DC Water provides annual water quality results, but data collection sample location is not clear. We stopped drinking the water because of the elevated iron levels. To “mitigate” the situation, DC Water flushes the main hydrant by our house multiple times a week to improve the iron (and chlorine levels), it doesn’t appear any solution such as replacement of corroded pipes (the culprit) will come in our lifetime. We don’t drink or cook with tap water and spend $300+ monthly on water delivery on top of the water consumption for laundry, showers etc. Below is the (long-ish) backstory, I hope to receive some much needed guidance!
