snowname

“Dear PoPville,

Does the coming storm have a “snowpocalypse” style name yet?”

On twitter @MalnurturedSnay suggests: “the snow name is #snowmageddeath … It’s like #snowmaggedon but this time we all die”

Not bad, not bad. I’ve also seen #snowmaggedon2016 – but that seems incredibly lazy.

And Snowtastrophe – that’s not bad either.

Personally, I’m thinking something like SnowWayOut. Anyone else see, have a good one or prefer one of the names mentioned above?

Also here’s the latest projection via Alert DC:

“The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning in effect from 3PM Friday January 22, 2016 through 6AM Sunday January 24, 2016. Heavy snow and wind expected, with a projected accumulation of about 24 inches of snow. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20’s, with increasing winds up to 40 mph. Heavy snow and blowing snow will cause dangerous conditions. Travel and visibility is expected to be limited during the storm.”

One reader (of unfortunately many many others) reports her trip:

“I had a 5 hour commute from tysons to Adams Morgan. Here are a few highlights of traffic and stuck vehicles….

Rockcreek Parkway – they basically shut it down. Got stuck at the turn going northbound less than a mile before the Calvert Street exit. Cars here: a ford 150 (left), BMW, corvette and an old school truck in the back. At one point oncoming traffic still was coming and the two northbound lanes were bumper to bumper.”

A reader reports:

“There’s an articulated bus blocking both southbound lanes of GA ave at Princeton. It was turning north and apparently got stuck. No one can get by on Princeton and of course Georgia is seriously backed up.

Good luck in the storm!”

From an email:

“DCSFA invites you to Dupont Circle Park this Saturday at noon for SNOW WARS: THE SNOWBALL STRIKES BACK!

We’re big Star Wars fans, and if you are too, bring your outfits and get into character as you engage with Storm Troopers, Jedi, Vader and maybe even some Ewoks! We also welcome Trekkies and other space-themed combatants (think Guardians of Galaxy, The Martian, and as a homage to Bowie, some Ziggy Stardusts as well!).

Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1073324589364838/

Then join us at Ping Pong – Chinatown for the official after party (time TBA), where the best Snow Wars outfitted-snowballers can redeem the food & drink vouchers that we’ll be giving out!

We also hope you can sign up for the DC Snow Team and help seniors and people with disabilities to shovel their sidewalks over the weekend! Post a photo of yourselves doing the shoveling on our Facebook page, Twitter, or Instagram with the #DCSFA, show it to the DCSFA reps or Ping Pong staff – and you’ll get a DCSFA T-shirt – the first new DSCFA swag since 2010.
