“As of 5 a.m. Mon (2/15), Metrobus operating a SEVERE weather plan. Many routes not operating, others detour.

During severe or heavy snow accumulation or icy conditions, Metro will restrict bus service to severe snow routes. Service is limited to major roads only and passengers should anticipate service delays and increased wait times. Customers traveling when Severe snow service is in place should be aware Metrobus may have to suspend all service if road and weather conditions worsen and travel becomes unsafe.”

From Alert DC:

“The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY from 1 am Monday to 10 am Tuesday. The precipitation will be snow , sleet and freezing rain. The heaviest at 5 am Monday to 3 pm Monday evening. The accumulation will be 3 to 5 inches of snow and sleet. Around one-tenth of an inch of ice from freezing rain.

Timing: Snow will begin between 1 and 3 am Monday morning. Snow will change to sleet and freezing rain Monday afternoon and all freezing rain Monday evening. Precipitation will gradually change to rain late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Winds will be southeast around 5 to 10 mph.

Temperatures will be in the teens tonight and rising into the upper 20s to lower 30s Monday into Monday night. Temperatures will rise into the upper 40s Tuesday.”

“Mayor Bowser Directs Full Deployment for 11p.m., Sun., Feb. 14;
1-3 Inches of Snow Plus Wintry Mix Possible on Monday

Wintry mix may include sleet and freezing rain; motorists and pedestrians are urged to travel with caution while temperatures remain below freezing

Mayor Muriel Bowser has directed a full deployment for the DC Snow team, starting at 11 p.m., Sunday, February 14, based on the possibility of 1 to 3 inches of snow falling early Monday, followed by a wintry mix of sleet and rain which could cause slippery travel conditions. More than 200 plows will be deployed. The critical time for snowfall is expected early Monday morning at 3AM, with transition to a wintry mix while temperatures remain below freezing. Plows will be positioned on bridges and overpasses as well as the freeways, major routes and residential streets to monitor conditions and spread salt or plow when necessary. The deployment will continue until the threat of snow and ice has passed. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to stay informed and exercise caution when traveling throughout the day.

“The Cold Emergency will be activated during the evening hours beginning at 7 pm through early mornings until Monday, February 15, 2016 at 7 am. Under a “Cold Emergency Alert” additional services and supports are provided to protect residents from life-threatening illness and injury associated with severe cold weather.”

Update:

“The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for a half inch of snow from 6 PM to Midnight. Snow showers are most likely between 6 PM and 8 PM. Winds will be from the south around 5 mph through this evening. Winds will become northwest, with gusts up to 30 mph toward midnight. Temperatures will be in the upper 20’s to lower 30’s toward midnight.

Stay informed and exercise caution when driving in any snow showers this evening, especially on untreated roads. Even a small snow accumulations will cause untreated roads to become icy.”

From Alert DC:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser has directed the DC Snow Team to go into a full deployment Friday, February 12. The District will deploy about 200 plows by noon, based on weather reports that call for a coating to a half inch of snow to fall between Friday afternoon and midnight. Below-freezing temperatures may cause snow to stick to the pavement and affect Friday’s afternoon rush hour. The Snow Team will pretreat bridges and overpasses as well as the freeways and other major routes tonight and tomorrow until snow begins to fall.”

The District will deploy more than 200 plows by noon, based on predictions of a system that begins with rain during the day but may change to snow possibly in time for the evening rush hour. Accumulations are not known at this time but there could be 1-3 inches overnight Monday night into Tuesday, and the morning rush hour also could be affected. The low temperature Monday night is predicted to be 32F. Tuesday’s forecast is for a 50% chance for rain and snow with a high of 40F. (more…)
