“Dear Prince of Petworth,

I wanted to let you know, that the I, “The Sultan of Coho” declare war on you and your kingdom. You will see from our newly complete fortress that you have much to fear. 3551 13th st nw is the center of power in this town.”

I accept your challenge and will defend my honor as soon as I can raise my army who for some reason don’t seem to be returning my calls at the moment… It’s on!

Thanks to Chuck for sending the above photo from Mass. Ave. I only saw a couple trees down myself. Have you guys seen any trees down? If you do, remember to call 311.

It’s wild a few readers sent in the exact same photo above. Andrew writes:

“I thought you might be interested in this picture of the shelves in the meat department of the Columbia Heights Giant last night. Things had calmed down by nine, but it looked as if the neighborhood thought aliens were going to invade or something.”

Thanks to a couple of readers for sending in these shots. And below John writes:

“Here’s some pictures of a Cop car stuck on R st near 1st. Neighbors helped push it out. Crazy.”

It was nice to see so many folks helping each other out.

Thanks to all the readers who sent in photos of this under-reported battle. I saw lots of news about the Dupont fight (a comparison photo after the jump) but heard very little of the Meridian Hill one. I stopped by Meridian Hill and in addition to this great battle there was also snow football, sledding and a general good time.

Once again, Holy Crap! Nicholas writes in a comment:

“There is a hook-and-ladder truck stuck right in front of my house (7th & Gallatin). A freakin’ fire truck – with chains – and multiple firemen and residents trying to get it out. To no avail. Waiting for a wrecker now. Insanity. #snOMFG.”

SNOWSANITY!

Wow, this is making the Dec. blizzard look like a little sprinkling. Couple of overnight items. First from DC:

“Residents are reminded to phone 311 to report any downed trees. Please provide a specific address including building number and street name, if available, so crews can quickly identify the location. DDOT’s Urban Forestry crews are cutting and moving fallen trees to keep roadways open. Additional clean up and removal of debris will commence after the storm ends.

Some downed power lines have also been reported. Pepco crews are responding. Residents are reminded to not approach or touch downed lines and to report any incidents immediately. Call 911 for any live wires or Pepco’s emergency number at 1-877-PEPCO-62″

Second, in addition to a snowball fight in Meridian Hill at 2pm, I’m also hearing there is one at noon at 14th and U and another one at 2pm at Dupont Circle. And also at 2pm in Lincoln Park for Capitol Hill folks (thanks Rukasu). If anyone goes take some photos for me, please!

Submit your photos via email or to the PoPville flickr pool here.

And finally you can get Snowpocalypse the drink from Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe:

“In case your readers want info on restaurants and other businesses that will be open during the storm, I wanted to tell you that Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe (1517 Connecticut Ave, NW) will be open regular hours (24 hrs. Fri & Sat., & ’til late Sun.-Thurs.). We will be serving a special drink: The Snowpocalypse: Bailey’s Irish Cream, Godiva Chocolate liqueur & Peppermint Schnapps in hot chocolate.”

Thanks to all the readers who sent this from Craigslist:

So, the title of the post alone should indicate that I am a HUGE fan of 2 things — (1) Having a FUN time in whatever I am doing and (2) the SNOW!

Well, this weekend those two things come together and I am consequently trying to organize a giant friendly snowball fight in Meridian Hill Park.

For those who participated in the giant snow ball fight on U Street earlier this Winter, you know well how much fun was had — and I envision the same thing, minus people throwing snowballs at car and the subsequent scare that occurred when the cop pulled out his gun!

No, this will be different, 2 teams — across the field from each other just pelting away with snowballs. The layout of the park will make this perfect. There are wooded areas, hills, and completely enough room for everyone to have a blast.

Feel free to bring your pets as well as I know last time we did this there were a bunch of doggies there as well!

Saturday at 2:00 PM EST!! Don’t miss it!!!

The fun will start at 2:00 PM EST!!!

My question is a simple one – do you think we’ll get more snow than the Dec. blizzard? I’m putting the over/under at 20″. Is anyone going in to work?

I already received word from Duffy’s located near 9:30 Club (a PoP advertiser) that they’ll be open on Sat. no matter how much snow comes down. So if you guys know or hear of any other places that will be open on Sat. please leave in the comments.

Also don’t forget to shovel your sidewalks and if you have elderly neighbors help them out with their shoveling please.

And finally don’t forget to upload your snow photos to the PoPville flickr pool here.
