The Rugby and Cafe space closed back in February 2013.

From South Moon Under’s website:

“What began as a small surf shack in Ocean City, Maryland in the summer of 1968 has since evolved into an upscale casual shopping destination. Today, we have 28 locations (and counting) plus an online boutique. We are most loved for an ever-evolving assortment that allows our customer to discover something new with every visit; combined with our friendly yet high service environment which reflects the laidback mindset instilled in the founding store over 45 years ago.

Inspired by our heritage at the beach and the lifestyle of our customer, our selection is versatile, innately wearable and treasured. We strive to surprise and delight by providing fresh and unique pieces from established brands and emerging designers. We’ve built our company by building relationships with warmth and kindness and just like our brand, you’ll never outgrow it. It is our unfailing mission to connect & engage with our community to inspire moments of happiness.”

Thanks to Kevin for sending the story from WTOP:

“Scottsdale, Arizona-based Cold Stone Creamery will open its eighth Washington-area location this summer in D.C.’s Cleveland Park neighborhood.

The ice cream chain has signed a lease for 1,400 square feet at Sam’s Park & Shop shopping center at 3503 Connecticut Ave. NW. It will replace Secolari Olive Oil at the property, owned by Rockville-based Federal Realty.”

Secolari closed back in April and Petco’s last day is January 23rd (Target coming.) Cleveland Park once had a Cold Stone Creamery located at 3508 Connecticut Ave, NW. That space is becoming a Pivot Physical Therapy.

Merlot’s Masterpiece opened in the former Habitat space back in 2012.

“Merlot’s Masterpiece creates experiences for people to get together through paint and wine. No experience is required. Meet new people or bring friends.”

Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

Riide electric bikes opened up here back in November 2015. Riide’s current address is now listed as 500 Penn Street, NE.

Breather’s website says:

Well, we don’t have Union Station to kick around anymore. UNIQLO was a harbinger indeed.

Holy smokes, thanks to Michael for sending:

“Was just checking out Union Station’s website randomly for store hours and saw a ton of pretty great things listed as “coming soon” including Blue Bottle, Chick-Fil-A, Magnolia, and Warby Parker.”

And don’t sleep on the sale at The Body Shop!!

Yesterday the X2 Bus tweeted:

“looks like nine west and art of shaving are closed at union station. probably 2,000 square feet of retail here.”

Presumably the Warby Parker will take much of that space. STAY TUNED.

Ed. Note: Blue Bottle Coffee also has plans for Logan Circle[?], The Wharf and Union Market and have already opened in Georgetown.

From American University:

“Open Letter from American University about Johnson’s Florist and Garden Centers

We are saddened to lose Johnson’s Florist and Garden Center as a tenant as well as a neighborhood fixture at their Tenleytown location. We have tremendous respect for them as a family and as a local business that has been part of the community fabric.

With a deep understanding of their meaning to the community, American University has worked tirelessly to keep Johnson’s as a tenant, particularly over the last three years. We have made significant concessions over a long period of time that we would not have made for other commercial tenants. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am really sad to see Johnson’s leaving our neighborhood. They have been a great neighbor and having them within walking distance has just cheered me up so many times. What is AU doing with this property? They have let the Firelake Grill space sit dormant… Does this mean that they’re planning to do something more major with the site in general? Are other businesses in that complex (thinking particularly of Sullivan’s) in jeopardy too?”

Thanks to all who passed on from Johnson’s:

“To Our Valued Customers,

We truly regret to inform you that, after more than eighty-four wonderful years serving our community in and around the Tenleytown neighborhood, Johnson’s Florist & Garden Centers is closing our Washington, DC location on or before January 14, 2018.

This closure is a direct result of the significant increase in rent and other related fees of occupancy imposed upon us by the building’s owner. Despite months of earnest negotiation we have been unable to arrive at a mutual understanding with our landlord.

We look forward to continuing to provide you with the full florist and garden services in our Maryland stores that you have come to expect from our DC store. (more…)

Thanks to Trav for the heads up: “All boxed up. Doors locked with all the signs off.” Filson’s website says:

“This spring, we’ll be moving into our new home in the Shinola Building (14th and R St, NW). Our new space will be twice the size so we’ll have more room to better serve our customers.

Our last day of business at the current location will be Sunday, December 24. In the meantime, you can shop Filson.com for your outdoor needs, and as always, shipping is free on all orders.”

Filson first came to Logan Circle in 2015 when sister store, Shinola, moved to 14th and R. Updates when we learn what becomes of this space.
