11th Street is about to get some more outdoor dining options. The Coupe at the corner of 11th and Monroe St, NW is looking to add a 50 sidewalk cafe according to a liquor license amendment. Though The Coupe is open 24 hours a day the sidewalk cafe could only be open:

Sunday through Thursday 10 am – 11 pm and Friday and Saturday 10 am -1 am.

@HStGreatSt tweeted the news via the Hill East Listserv:

“Via newhilleast list: @CurbsideCupcake-H St res/@UnionMarketDC tenants-opening spot @ 15th & C St SE. Cupcakes + replacing Crepes on Corner”

In Aug. 2012 Crepes on the Corner closed after a brief residency at the corner of 15th and C St, SE.

Think a Curbside Cupcakes will do well here?

A couple weeks ago we admired tbe new copper windows at Baby Wale coming to 1124 9th Street, NW by the convention center. EaterDC shares the word that they are opening up to the public next week:

“Menu items at Baby Wale will range from the lobster roll to the pupusa. Power says he sees the place as a bar with a focus on food and wine. He’s working on a roast chicken for two that will be a bigger version of Corduroy’s roast chicken dish. There will be soups, salads and other dishes (a crispy salmon with refried black beans is in the works).”

Thanks to a reader for sending word:

“There does not seem to be much fanfare but M Café Bar opened Wednesday night… They were serving what they called an opening menu that is shorter than what the final menu will be.”

Unfortunately, full menus aren’t posted yet. Anyone happen to stop by?

Uptown Tap House opened up in the former 4Ps space in Cleveland Park back in Sept. 2012. They’re already getting a refresh. I called the Tap House and was told they will be closed until September 3rd while new management takes over and a new menu is designed.

A member of the Cleveland Park Listserv also says:

“I have heard from one of the contractors that it is going to more “upscale” than it is now. Much more: better food, better atmosphere, etc. He stated hopefully it will be done by September 2.”

The following was written by Eating around Town’s dcreba. dcreba previously wrote about and shared preview photos of Thally, opening soon in Shaw.

When the local firm GrizForm Design Architects was invited by the owners of Tonic to come and revamp their outdoor space, the first consideration was overall design. “We are immediately sensitive to movement and flow of people,” said Brooke Loewen. “Flow and function drive everything that follow.”

With this in mind, the designers created a contemporary beer garden in the middle of Foggy Bottom. It was envisioned as the perfect spot for leisure and study sessions during the summer day.

When the bar and restaurant are closed, students from neighboring George Washington University will spread out over the custom designed picnic tables built from light white oak and brightened with powdered metal legs in lively papaya.

Lunchtime would see a mix of local business workers, students, and neighbors. And at nightfall, the expansive outdoor space could take on a biergarten element. The bars, built from mahogany and topped with light colored granite, are cleverly built on industrial casters and can slide, as needed, to create a free form bar. (more…)
