“Dear PoPville,

It appears that *finally* a new restaurant is coming to Waterfront, in the DC Government Building retail space at 1100 4th ST SW – it’s in the west building, north-corner spot. Any idea on what it will be?”

This is going to become another location of Masala Art which currently has a location up in Tenleytown (4441 Wisconsin Avenue, NW.) The owner of Masala Art tells me that if construction continues on schedule:

“I am looking to be open in last week of april if all goes well.”

Check out Masala’s menu here.

Washington Business Journal’s permit roundup reports:

“1899 L St. NW: Renovation to a vacant, 1,170-square-foot street-level retail tenant for a new 10-seat pizza joint. Per the permit, the eatery will be called “DC PIZZA.”

Previously the Business Journal had reported:

“D.C. Pizza will lease 1,200 square feet of space at 1103 19th St. NW. The restaurant, from serial franchise owners Bob Daly and Lisa Lakin, will feature personal, choose-your-own-topping pizzas made to order.”

1899 L Street is the building on the corner of 19th and L and this retail space is actually accessed from 19th Street not L. Back in July 2013 we noted that the Oh Fish! Maki Sushi Joint by Kaz had closed.

Lots of action for 19th Street between L and M lately. Recently Famous Luigi’s Pizza closed, Sophie’s Cuban opened, Nature’s Table opened, Noodles and Co opened and yesterday we learned GRK Greek Fresh is coming from NYC. And just north of M the New Orleans Po Boy Shop is still closed.

This morning we learned that a new Greek restaurant would opening up next door to the new Noodles and Company on 19th Street. Thanks to a reader for sending word that the restaurant is out of NYC and called GRK Fresh Greek. Check out their Menu here.

Their website says:

“From the people who brought you drama, democracy, and alarm clocks, we now present the simple perfection of GRK. Our new take on classic Greek food brings you fresh flavors like you’ve never tasted.”

vinoteca
1940 11th Street, NW

Vinoteca’s Facebook page says:

“We’ll be getting a little “facelift” next week and will be closed for 10 days. Nothing major, just a little revamping of the bar area. As much as we love you, we can’t really get anything done with you around all the time… And we’ll be back open before you know it, on Feb. 28th.”

Eater DC notes some of the work:

“The bar area will feature a concrete bar top and go back to the space’s original exposed brick. The owners also brought in wood from a Michigan Ash tree which they’ll use for a rustic slab on top of one of the bars, and use for flooring.”

From an email:

“We [Three Little Pigs] get a lot of customers asking us for butchery classes and fresh cuts of meat. So, we just decided to offer both – at the same time! The idea is simple, you, and if you’d like, a couple of pals pitch in to buy half or a whole pig from TLP (the pigs come from Polyface Farm). You come in on Saturday (and if need be Sunday) and we will teach you how to butcher your pig any way you’d like. From there, we portion everything out and you take your custom meats home for yourself or to share among your friends and family. It’s going to be awesome! Here is the breakdown:

1/2 pig weighs approx 110lbs. The price per pound is $3.75
Lecture and instructional – Half Pig: $375 -or- Whole Pig: $500
The service takes place on weekends only (scheduling at least two weeks ahead)
Each customer can bring two guests. Additional guests can attend for an additional $100 per person
We will be selling cutting boards, butcher knives, and aprons can be purchased at a discounted rate
TLP will provide lunch and kitchen tour to all guests”

The District Fishwife is now open in Union Market. For those not familiar – from their Facebook page:

” We will offer fresh and sustainably caught and raised seafood and prepared seafood for take-away, notably our own take on the classic Fish and Chips.

Fiona Lewis is The Fishwife. She brings a passion for seafood and the health of the world’s oceans, and a desire to educate customers to make more sustainable and healthy choices when they bring home seafood. Fiona grew up in Melbourne, Australia near the ocean and spent her childhood fishing with her grandfather in Port Phillip Bay and watching her Dad breed and release endangered fish to rebuild local populations. Fiona studied marine biology during university and quickly understood the extent to which the world’s oceans were being stressed by over-fishing, pollution, and illegal fishing practices. She has 25 years of international experience in hospitality, retail sales, and education, and has worked in the hospitality industry since she was 18. She’s been searching for the chance to bring together her two passions in life, and this shop is the culmination of that dream.

We are committed to offering the best quality sustainable seafood available from Day One and in order to make sure we have the best fish we can find, we’ve brought on a local seafood expert as our fish buyer, Vernon Lingonfelter. Vernon knows good fish when he sees it, and we’re excited to have him on our team.”

Earlier this month a reader sent word that Noodles and Company would soon be opening at 19th and L St, NW. They are having an invite only mock service today and open for real tomorrow.

Perhaps of greater interest is news of who is coming to the vacant space next door closest to Science Club – a permit on the door says that it will be a new restaurant, possibly to be called Greek Fresh. The workers also said they heard it would be a Greek restaurant. This is actually a very bold move considering one of DC’s best Greek options, Greek Deli, is located just down the block at 1120 19th St, NW. Updates as the buildout progresses and more info is know.
