Great news for Woodridge – a brief update from Karlos Leopold:

“We hope to begin the remodel in late January and be on our way to opening Nido (pronounced knee-dough) sometime in the Spring.”

Back in October we learned that a Mediterranean Bistro from one ofBoundary Road’s owners, Karlos Leopold, and former Boundary Road Manager Erin Lingle was hoping to come to Rhode Island Ave, NE in Woodridge. Updates as construction progresses.

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve got to ask if any in the community have anything good to offer about the somewhat-recently-relocated restaurant, Creme. I had very modestly moderate hopes when they opened that they might be a go-to neighborhood restaurant. But middling Yelp reviews, a nearly constantly empty restaurant (I walk/bike by multiple times a day and even at peak times it is often nearly completely empty), and a less-than-inviting decor have kept me away. Any fans out there? Or will UMD researchers discover it’s lackluster Yelp reviews are indeed indicative of an imminent demise?”

Ed. Note: It always seems crowded when I walk by during weekend brunch hours. You can see Creme’s menus here.

Last week a reader sent word that a new restaurant “with 66 seats on the second floor, 57 seats on the third floor, 63 seats on the fourth floor” was coming to the beautiful Bulletin Building in Chinatown. The restaurant has now posted a placard for a liquor license under the name Bar Deco:

“New Restaurant. Occupancy load is 357. Summer Garden with 48 seats.”

Updates when they get closer to opening.

Last week we learned that Salt and Pepper Grill III was taking over the former Chocolate Crust space on Georgia Ave just south of Missouri by the Walmart. Thanks to a reader for sending the update – though they didn’t particularly like the naan:

“the lamb roganjosh was delicious! and the place is decorated very well, better than the other two. lunch buffet service starts today…”

“Looks like Black and Orange is officially no more. I’ll definitely miss this place.

On the plus side, the new Surfside around the corner is opening in January. On Saturday I talked to the owner who was checking out the building. He said that all of the fixtures are done and they’ll be opening “soon in the new year.”

“.@PoPville @Smashburger Dupont sign being loaded up in a truck. Location now closed. Dupont rats strike again?”

A call to the store confirms that they closed yesterday and are moving to Alexandria. They were unable to give a reason for the abrupt closure. Smashburger opened up back in Sept. 2013.
