In the beginning of the month we learned Pizza Parts & Service had closed at 1320 H St, NE. After some false rumors I’ve learned who’s taking over the space! On the first floor a new restaurant is coming from Sam Adkins:

“Sam will be the head chef, seconded by Mandy Rosenfelt (formerly of the Breslin in NYC and The Welk in Westport, CT). Some might recognize Sam from New Heights, Cashion’s, Jackie’s, or William Jeffrey’s.”

I’m told the menu will feature seasonal and local products and be “honest and interesting. Also – coffee and ice cream!”

And what makes this even more interesting:

“The second floor will house a small retail showroom curated by Erik Bruner-Yang’s wife (of Toki Underground, Maketto), Seda Nak, and Aphra Adkins (Sam Adkins’ wife). The space will be available for pop-ups and other events, with a roof deck in the works for the future.”

The goal is for an early June opening. Updates as construction progresses.

A reader writes:

“I don’t think you have posted about this. I think (and am hoping) it is going to be a cava grill restaurant, but I’m not sure what work space means. Possibly office space? The first floor where it is looks like a spot for a restaurant.”

Sadly I inquired when I saw the sign too (next to Pearl Dive) but alas it’s just their corporate offices. But if the right space becomes available it’s possible Cava Grill could come to Logan one day.

From a press release:

“pro·vi·sion (verb) “supply with food, drink, or equipment, especially for a journey.” Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows and a design that melds the nostalgia of early American charm with wanderlust warmth, set a stunning backdrop for a comprehensive program of libations and creative, communal cuisine at the soon-to-open new Provision No. 14. Occupying an impressive corner space on 14th & V NW, Provision No. 14 is the first project from the newly formed Social Restaurant Group, and is projected to open in late March 2015.

The culinary program at Provision No. 14 will well complement its energetic design, featuring a menu of communal, creative American cuisine designed to be shared at the table among friends. The menu will feature a list of updated, modern takes on classic fondues and a snack menu composed of several playful dishes. Guests are encouraged to taste a wide selection of snack plates and experience the array of fun foods. Provision No. 14’s menu will also feature a selection of daily rotating communal boards, a raw cut wood plank featuring an entrée, and complementing side dishes ideal for sharing.

Featuring 20 draft lines, a beer program that curates small-batch brewers from around the globe and large format bottled cocktails, Provision No. 14 shares a thoughtful and comprehensive beverage program with a diverse selection of uniquely dynamic libations. A hallmark of Provision No. 14’s beverage program will be a selection of no less than six large format bottled cocktails, ideal for sharing. The bottled cocktails will be 750 ml, the same as a bottle of wine, offering a fun alternative to the standard shared beverage. Provision No. 14’s beverage program will also feature two draft cocktails, two well-crafted frozen cocktails and a menu of signature cocktails. (more…)

Over the summer we learned that the owners and chef from Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan would be opening a second restaurant at 801 O Street, NW in Shaw. A few readers have sent emails asking for an update, noting no visible construction and that their liquor license placard has been turned around. Emails to the owner for an update have not been returned. Hopefully they’re just raising money but it’s not clear if they’re still on track for a Spring opening. Updates when more info is known.

@breadandbrew tweeted yesterday:

“True last call! All drinks $1 including top shelf, draft beer, free pizza ..while supplies last. Thank you for 6 wonderful years.”

Bread & Brew opened up in the former Greek carryout back in 2009. Barred in DC noted:

“The closing is not a surprise to sharp-eyed watchers of the real estate scene; the building that houses DC Bread and Brew was acquired in fall 2014 to be razed for a new office building, as reported by the Washington Business Journal.”

Plans are for a new office building with retail. Updates when construction starts.

RIP Bread & Brew – you were pretty damn cool.
