Chix is a restaurant concept established in Washington D.C. in 2007 with a commitment to nourish our customers, employees, and communities through the food we serve and the lifestyle we create. The Chix motto is “eat responsibly” because we are a triple bottom line business – focusing on people, planet, and profit. Our food is locally sourced, organic, all natural, prepared fresh on site, and delicious. Our chef-inspired menu focuses on grilled chicken and vegetarian meals with a Latin flavor.

The other two Chix locations – in Thomas Circle and Navy Yard – will remain open. The delivery zone for the Thomas Circle location in downtown will be widened to include ALL of the current customers that have supported Chix over the years. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending. I think this is a former Corner Bakery right? Anyway this is right near the Renwick and the White House. Eatsa opened their first DC location on K Street last month:

1706 I Street, NW (technically 888 17th St, NW)

Damn the Torpedoes, full speed ahead for fast casual at Farragut Square! I feel like folks didn’t appreciate that brilliant title last time : ) so this they’ll appreciate – free food!! I happened to pass by yesterday and was told the Farragut location on I Street (next door to the coming La Colombe coffee) soft opens Wednesday from 11:30-1:30pm and from 4-6pm. On Thursday they’ll be open from 11-3pm. Both days is free for the first 150 but you’ll need to RSVP here. Ed. Note: I’m not certain of the Old Town details but you can find out more and RSVP for that one here.

“Drop in for lunch or dinner on us before our official opening. All salads + drinks will be complimentary!

We’re still training our team members, so we ask you to help us keep it simple. We will not be offering build your own bowls or any substitutions/additions for our signature menu items. Thank for your understanding!

1250 Connecticut Avenue, NW at N Street

That was fast. My tears have not yet dried after learning of STK’s demise and our dreams of a California Pizza Kitchen revival are no more as well according to this BISNOW report (thanks to those who emailed links):

“City Tap House will open its second location in the 9,300 SF space on the corner of Connecticut and N Street NW, where STK moved just two and a half years ago.

City Tap House signed a 15-year lease, Brookfield’s Dave Bevirt tells Bisnow, and the restaurant will open this spring.”

Philly original, City Tap House opened their first DC location at 901 9th Street, NW in the former 901 Restaurant and Bar in late 2013. You can check out their Menus here. Updates as they get closer to opening.

LeTena, fast casual Ethiopian, opened late October in former Señor Chicken space in DC USA and folks have been writing in saying how great it was. Now they’re adding a liquor license which should make them even better : ) For folks who haven’t been yet, any must order items?

From a press release:

“CAVA, the rapidly expanding fast casual restaurant brand, will open a new location in the trendy Shaw area at The Shay Building on 8th St NW, on Tuesday, December 20. This represents the 23rd restaurant for CAVA, and the 5th in DC where it has proved wildly popular since opening their first fast casual restaurant in 2011. This restaurant will be CAVA’s Innovation Kitchen, a creative space where the brand will test new menu items and technology, and host community events.

On the opening day, CAVA will hold a Community Dinner, a tradition that started with the very first restaurant opening. CAVA will offer free meals between 5pm and 8pm and will be accepting donations to City Blossoms, their local non-profit partner, which has a community garden in Shaw that champions healthy eating for young people in the neighborhood.

To give the opening a festive feel, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will be performing holiday carols, while Whisked! will be selling holiday pies with 50% of proceeds going to City Blossoms and CAVA will be serving their new Spiced Chai Green Tea for free to guests in line.
