David reports:

“Did you catch that Jimmy John’s in Columbia Heights Civic Plaza is gone?”

Jimmy John’s opened up back in June 2016. Anyone know when they closed? Side note: Every single Jimmy John’s I’ve passed the last many months have been dead empty. Is this a sign that Jimmy John’s is going the way of the Quiznos? STAY TUNED.

Thanks to Grant for sending word that the liquor license placards for Pisco Y Nazca Gastro Bar have now been affixed to the former Mackey’s space proper:

“New Restaurant, serving Spanish cuisine. Total Occupancy Load is 230, with seating for 230.”

Their website for a Florida location says:

“Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar adds a modern twist to traditional Peruvian cuisine. Inspired by Peru’s top ceviche eateries, this new Miami restaurant serves up bold-flavored dishes, unique cocktails and a vast selection of local and international beers.”

Check out their menu too.

STAY TUNED.

I’ve been getting tons of messages asking about Old Engine and it occurred to me I never posted the press release I got (I blame the high ABVs on my favorite RAR and Dogfish Head beers) – without further ado:

“The century old firehouse located at 1626 North Capitol Street NW will soon be home to a new restaurant concept along with venue improvements designed for hosting large and small private events. Spark at Engine Co 12 will be a neighborhood cocktail bar and smoke house with a menu of shared platters featuring smoked meats, flavorful composed appetizers, craft cocktails, and a specialty rum menu. Set to open January 2018, the name Spark at Engine Co 12 preserves the legacy of the Firehouse built in 1897 that once served the Bloomingdale community. (more…)

Thanks to Jaime for alerting us to the Go Fund Me campaign for Capitol Hill Crab Cakes (1243 Good Hope Rd, SE):

“Family, I come to you humbled but not broken. Time is of the essence and we need your support TODAY.

Upon my return over the Holiday weekend, I entered my restaurant to prepare for the next business day. Shockingly, I found a caved in ceiling on the restaurant floor with gallons of water pouring in, flooding our entire kitchen and front dining area. A pipe burst has caused severe damage to our entire building, equipment, and materials. The landlord has placed the expensive repair bill solely on me. Due to the cost for the extensive water damage, we do not know when we will reopen. (more…)

Thanks to all who’ve messaged. Pat reminds me this morning:

“Jenkins Capital BBQ at 14 and Monroe looks out of business, place has been closed for over a week.”

Their Facebook hasn’t been updated since late September. So much for the early word. : ( Updates when we learn what’s going on with the space.
