“Dear PoPville,

Soup Up is delicious and healthy and the owner was so nice. Donna started off Union Market and makes a few special soups a day. She left my friend and I try all of them and we got chili fiesta, and delicious accident. It’s right by ANXO and decorated to be light and airy. She makes tea and is planing to have juices and a brunch in the coming weeks.

I will definitely be back and you should check it out too! Kennedy street is looking great!”

From a press release:

“The Capital Burger (1005 7th Street NW; 202-638-0414) joins Washington’s exciting restaurant scene this March, opening in Mount Vernon Square, convenient to the buzzy Shaw neighborhood, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and downtown’s bustling central business district. The 150-seat restaurant will offer a menu of specialty and classic burgers paired with a world-class wine program in a modern, comfortable dining room and vibrant lounge perfect for gatherings large and small. The Capital Burger will provide Washington diners a familiar, elevated service and a keen sense of hospitality – an extension of its legendary sister restaurant, The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The result is a classic meal fit for an epicure; a luxury burger experience.

From Bub and Pop’s:

“The Hebrew Hammer Comes to Bub and Pop’s

Chef Jon had approached me about changing the name of our Jewish Hoagie for sometime. We’ve decided to do it!

We are changing the name of one of our most popular sandwiches, the Jewish Hoagie – to the Hebrew Hammer. This monster pastrami, brisket, roast turkey, kosher salami, spicy mustard, 1,000 Island and Swiss piled with our Cole Slaw was featured by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

We are changing the name to honor our son, brother, husband and father, Peter W. Taub, Special Agent, AFOSI, who lost his life on December 21, 2015 in Afghanistan along with his squad of 5 other service members.

Pete was given the name Hebrew Hammer after a sparring session between himself and Jonathan M. Oldhorse. They were training partners in both Karate and MBC (Martial Blade Concepts) when Pete was stationed at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. I asked Jonathan to share the story. (more…)

Whoa part four – we now know who’s coming to the former Cork space (now located up the block) – The Meatball Shop!! Eater DC reports:

“Singularly focused New York chain the Meatball Shop plans to open its first restaurant outside the five boroughs this summer along D.C.’s thriving 14th Street corridor.

Meatball Shop plans to fill that void by providing sit-down lunch service — along with happy hour, dinner, late-night dining, and weekend brunch.”

Check out their NYC menus here.

Updates as they get closer to opening.

Ed. Note: Yes, yes we recall D.C.’s last meatballs adventure, fingers crossed for this one!

3311 Connecticut Ave, NW

Ed. Note: Yesterday we learned that José Andrés’ America Eats Tavern would be coming to the former Old Glory BBQ space early this summer.

Whoa part three – thanks to Kevin for making sure we saw this tweet from the Post’s Tom Sietsema:

“Taking the place of the long-running Ardeo in Cleveland Park next month is Sababa, a salute to the cooking of Israel, says owner Ashok Bajaj. Ryan Moore, an alumnus of Zaytinya and other esteemed kitchens, will serve as chef.”

I told you this was gonna be good news!!

Updates as more is known.

The recently opened Arepa Zone (in the former Chix space) is adding beer and wine. The placard says:

“New Restaurant, serving arepas and other authentic Venezuelan, South American and Central American cuisine. Total Occupancy Load is 88 with seating for 45.”

So what’s the early word? Is it as delicious as everyone anticipated?
