“Dear PoPville,
I love tamales and would also love to support some tamale makers this holiday season. Any recommendations for people to place orders by the dozen from for Christmas Eve?”

“Dear PoPville,
I don’t know if GP Grill was always there or if it’s taken the place of Casolare, which seems to no longer have any Internet presence. Instagram gone. Website not working. It’s unfortunate. The Kimpton hotel was closed for months (drive-thru covid testing) and only recently removed boards from windows.”
From a press release:
“Schlow Restaurant Group has opened its newest concept, The Glover Park Grill for dine in & patio service 7 days a week from 5 – 9pm. Award-winning Chef Michael Schlow has teamed up with Chef Hamilton Johnson to lead the project. Johnson was most recently the chef de cuisine at American Son. Previously, Johnson had won the Michelin Plate Award two years in a row as the Executive Chef at Honeysuckle and has worked at a number of key Washington DC establishments. (more…)

From Moreland’s Tavern (5501 14th Street, NW):
“We have made up some of our classics for the holiday season. These are perfect for family, neighbors, bosses, employees, or even your favorite blogger! These will come in a box ready to ship or wrap! (Legally we can not ship for you.) These will be available starting today at 4pm online. If you are looking for a large quantity or personalized labels, please email [email protected].
Ed. Note: If you’re wondering why I’m always posting about Moreland’s Tavern it’s because I love Moreland’s! And John Denver. And gyros. And a good smoked whitefish.

Thanks to Anthony for sending the good word: “I hope to inform the Columbia Heights community that seeing clients entering the new restaurant on 11th St called Ossobuco has opened.”
Their website is still being worked on but presumably we’ll be able to see their menu here. Anyone take an early taste?
Update: Thanks to Matt for sending a PDF of the menu – Ossobuco Menu (PDF)

Lots of folks have passed on the request from Across the Pond:
“The COVID Roller Coaster Continues…
For the past nine months, our goal has been to hang on until next spring. The return of conferences, sports and tourists, along with promising news on vaccines, gave us hope.
But like so many other DC restaurants, we’re a bit worried. Recent spikes have impacted on-premise dining; cold weather is hampering outdoor dining; some of our local customers have temporarily relocated; or in some cases, just aren’t aware that we’re open.
We are lucky, we have very understanding landlords, they want to see us hang on…and that makes us want to keep going. For them, for our customers, for our staff and for us…we’ve given all we’ve had.
So if you’re in any position to help, here are some suggestions: (more…)

From Ivy and Coney:
“Ivy and Coney Pauses In-House Dining, Continues Pickup and Delivery
Ivy and Coney, DC’s home for tube meat sandwiches and baseball, will be pausing in-house dining for the foreseeable future. We will be serving up dogs and pouring Malort on the deck through this Sunday, December 6th. While the deck is closed, pickup and delivery through DC To-GoGo will continue Thursday to Sunday. So don’t worry, you’ll still be able to get your hot dog and Detroit pizza fix. On top of that, we hope to get a fun market for people to shop online for a variety of local products up and running in time for the holidays (stay tuned!)
No matter what happens, we want to assure folks that Ivy and Coney is not going anywhere. (more…)
