“Please join us on Monday, December 21st for a Winter Solstice Celebration.
Starting at 5 pm we will feature the next beer in our guest tap series,
Anderson Valley Winter Solstice Ale, an award-winning 6.9% ABV spiced
brown ale.
We’re even more excited however, about the long-awaited release of our
house-made Nocino, an Italian-style green walnut liqueur that has been
infusing since June! The complex bitter flavor of green walnuts is
softened by sugar and complemented by baking spices and lemon zest. It’s
served cold but sure to warm you up on a cold Winter’s night.”

From an Email:
“Ben’s Next Door is featuring Macallan Single Malt flights which include the award winning 18yr, 12yr, 15yr and 21yr Fine Oak for $25 tonight- Thursday from 6pm to 9pm.”
Sounds like a good way to warm up on a cold night. Did anyone go to the one on Dec. 3rd?
Ben’s Next Door is located at 1211 U Street, NW.

I guess I’m on a bit of a Diner kick lately. We briefly looked at this spot back when they opened in July at 2222 18th St., NW. At the time a few folks had really good experiences. Now that they’ve been open for a while I’m wondering if more folks have checked them out? Everytime I walk by it doesn’t seem to be too crowded which surprised me. Any regulars out there?

I first stopped by the Florida Avenue Grill’s front window, located at the corner of 11th and Florida, NW, to admire this holiday sign:

I quickly went from laughter to tears when I saw this:

To be honest, I can’t say I was a frequent late night Grill person but I seem to remember some folks loved this as a late night option. Very sad to hear that it’s no longer an option. I can’t imagine what would happen if Ben’s Chili Bowl ever decided to do this… A disappointing development for a legendary DC institution.

I’m a huge fan of Social located at 14th and Meridian, NW in Columbia Heights. Just thought I’d mention that they’ve added some new options to their menu that sounds awesome:
Angus Sliders 8/14/19 ($ small, medium, large prices)
hand formed with gorgonzola and pickled onions
Chicken Souvlaki with cucumber mint 7/13/18
grilled pita filled with marinated chicken, cucumber yogurt and regional salsa
Miso Glazed Chicken Skewer 6/11/15
grilled breast of young chicken , skewered and served with peanut curry dipping sauce
Vegetable Tempura with sweet soy chili sauce 7/13/18
deep fried green beans, cremini mushrooms, red peppers and zucchini
Chicken Cordon Bleu 8/14/19
pounded chicken wrapped into havarti cheese, breaded and fried served with a 10 cane rum honey mustard
Gilroy Garlic Fries 5/9
served with curry ketchup and honey mustard mayo
You can see the full menu after the jump. (more…)

We’ve been teased with a Jamaican Restaurant coming to this spot since 2007. This new sign is promising…

From a press release:
“Claude J. Boushey Sr., a 25-year member of the Army who lives in La Plata, Md., will speak about the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services to assist injured veterans during their recovery and rehabilitation. Boushey will also talk about his own life as a chief warrant officer for the Army, including when he was injured in the Iraq War in 2004 as the result of a helicopter crash.
“We’re honored that Claude is taking the time to share some of his personal experiences in the Army, as well as raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project, a critically important organization and the EagleBank Bowl’s charitable partner in 2009,” says Marie Rudolph, a co-founder of the EagleBank Bowl. “I also want to thank our friends at Policy for providing a wonderful venue to host this event.”
The event will run from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Policy will provide light appetizers sponsored by Quality First Mortgage (www.qfmortgage.com). Drink specials include two for one beers, as well as $5.00-$6.00 beers, wine and specialty cocktails. There is a $10.00 suggested donation, and all donations and a
percentage of bar sales from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
Policy is located at 1904 14th St NW. The nearest Metro station is U Street-Cardozo. For more information, please call Policy at 202-387-7654 or visit www.policydc.com.”

PS 7’s is located at 777 I (Eye) Street, NW. You can see their menus here. Would this be a good option for restaurant week? Any fans out there in general?
