Update from ANCJosh (Josh Jacobson):

“Diving board: hoping to replace with a 0.5m board pending DC Health follow up. Diving board standards changed, and pool is not deep enough to support a 1m board. The depth further from board might not be enough for a 0.5m board. Hoping to have more info on approval in 2 weeks.

best case is that a shorter board comes back before end of summer. The pool might not be deep enough to meet health code though.”

“Dear PoPville,

Do you now what happened to the diving board at Banneker pool? Is it coming back?”

I asked DPR 11 days ago (June 5) and was told, “I’ll see what info I can get for you on this.” Unfortunately no further updates despite continued requests. Will update when/if they follow up.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser, District officials, and community members celebrated the progress that has been made on the long-awaited McMillan redevelopment project. The District has invested more than $100 million to support the transformational project which is expected to deliver a 17,000 square-foot community center with a pool and a 6.2 acre park. Two-thirds of the project is also being developed by a private entity and will include housing, a grocery store, and amenities. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Several blocks in the AdMo-Kalorama neighborhood are now signed “No Parking” for the remainder of the month, meaning a couple hundred-plus parking spaces will get axed during that time. Can understand the one block of Kalorama Road and Wyoming Avenue (between Columbia Road and 18th Street) getting the signs in preparation for the one-way conversion. (more…)

Ed. Note: Should you see anyone in such a state, deceased or not, please call 911 immediately (not 311) presuming, hopefully, they will answer. Another reader writes: “you can pick up free Narcan at a pharmacy and get a quick training. DC Fire & EMS also has periodic training on hands-only CPR.”

“Dear PoPville,

Sunday at 1:46pm I called 311 police non-emergency to report a man in NW (near Adams Morgan) who appeared deceased from a heroin overdose. His lips looked blue and I saw visible narcotic paraphernalia attached to him. I waited on hold with 311 police non-emergency for exactly 10 minutes before hanging up. I then immediately dialed 911 hoping to get a quicker response. I waited on hold with 911 for 9 minutes before hanging up. I hung up because while waiting on hold I had walked to the nearby third district MPD station. At the MPD third district station (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Im wondering what the status is of DC business not accepting cash. I thought a law was passed that forced business in DC to accept cash but then it was on pause during the public health emergency but since that is over, can a restaurant deny cash as payment? If not who can I report this to?”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“This morning, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and District Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) issued a “Code Purple” air quality alert for Washington, DC for Thursday, June 8. A Code Purple air quality alert indicates very unhealthy air conditions for the entire public, not just those with respiratory illnesses. In response, Mayor Muriel Bowser has suspended several non-essential citywide services. The following services will be modified: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have had issues getting into contact with the DC Board of Nursing. I, as well as my college, have reached out to the general phone number and sent multiple emails with no communication from the department. Furthermore, I have reached out to the specific reviewer that they said is assigned to my case and I get automatically forwarded to a voicemail and, despite having left voicemails, receive no response and receive no response from them when directly emailing them. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

The other day I called 311 for a parking issue on private property. Within a few minutes of my call ending, the situation escalated to a vehicle collision and physical assault. When I tried calling 911, my phone would not allow the call, it would just close the phone app whenever I tried. I was not focusing well on my phone because the attacker was still there, but I saw a massage saying something like having just used an emergency number, i was not able to make this call. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I always thought that DC merely threw away its recyclables, but it was done behind the scenes. Today, the secret is out. Both green and blue bins dumped in same compactor. According to our maintenance man, it’s the second week in a row DC sanitation has done this. The excuse? “Not enough manpower, not enough trucks.” This was the answer provided by DC Sanitation worker.”
