“Dear PoPville,

Squatters have been living there. Reported in late May. City repeatedly postponed inspections.

Attached please find my original request for vacant property inspection in which I indicated that squatters were present.

Also attached are a series of emails [Ed. Note: I have not included all of them but there were 8 in total] for scheduled (and missed) inspections. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Earlier today (Tuesday), I happen to hear the street sweeper coming down my street (R NW in Dupont) and looked out to see him passing by (thankfully, all of the cars were moved). He left behind a trail of leaves so he backed all the way up to the start and made a second pass. There was still a little debris left so he backed up again and made a third pass – the street is totally clean now! I was so impressed that I emailed a general DPW email address to thank them. 15 minutes later, I received this response: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m in the process of renting out my space to a tenant that uses the DCHA voucher program. The tenant-to-be seems great, is doing all the paperwork on their end, and is ready to move in ASAP. The problem here is DCHA. We submitted the appropriate paperwork well over a month ago and to say they are moving slow is an understatement. They are taking days, if not weeks, to reply to us with really no movement towards approval. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Car is still out there in the street. A cop showed up at one point…looked at the car and ticket then called me back to say that I had to call 311 again. Which I did…again. I won’t go into all the conversations I’ve had because you just would not believe me. But if you live in DC you might. (more…)

From DDOT:

“The Clear Lanes Project is a joint initiative between Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) and DDOT that aims to improve bus travel times and enhance bus stop safety by using camera technology to identify illegally parked and stopped vehicles in dedicated bus lanes and bus zones.
Program Details:

Metro will mount automated cameras on buses serving select routes in DC. These cameras automatically take photos of violating vehicles and send information directly to DDOT for enforcement. Metro anticipates that the Clear Lanes project will be ready to roll out in Fall 2023, with a 45-day warning period beginning July 24, 2023.

“Dear PoPville,

Dead goose rotting in Francis Field (1255 25th St, NW) for over two weeks. I have called animal control and put in service requests at DPR and DC 311. They say they will “take care of it” yet it is a huge field and no one bothered to ask the location of the animal or take down my contact info so I can show them. Sports teams and young children ages 3-5 play in this field daily. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Follow up from your post three years ago.

I went to print a permit today at district 2 station; the officer helpfully told me that DDOT has not delivered paper in 2 months to any of the kiosks and “they occasionally get paper but do not know when it shows up or how much” and if I really needed to print, I had to go down to DDOT to print it.”
