From WMATA:

“For the second time in as many days, Metro Transit Police have arrested a 27-year-old D.C. man on charges of indecent exposure on the transit system. The suspect is identified as Alex Thomas-Dorsey of Northeast D.C.

In the first incident, around 8:45 p.m. Monday, April 3, the suspect was observed masturbating on a Silver Line train between Metro Center and L’Enfant Plaza. When the train arrived at L’Enfant Plaza, a passenger pointed out the suspect to an MTPD officer on the platform. The suspect was stopped, arrested and interviewed by MTPD detectives. That night, officials at D.C. Pretrial Services released the arrestee on a citation.

The following day (yesterday), the suspect boarded a Metrobus on the B2 route in Southeast D.C. In the 2000 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE, at approximately 8:15 a.m., the suspect began masturbating and completed the act on the floor of the bus. The actions took place in front of other passengers, including at least one juvenile. When a passenger notified the bus operator of the suspect’s actions, he exited the bus and fled the scene. “Dear PoPville,

This past Saturday afternoon I was in my backyard uncoiling my hose for spring and my next door neighbor (we share a corner so our yards butt up against each other) came outside, started screaming at me, ran over, jumped over our fence, punched me in the face, and then ran away. This incident was completely unprovoked. It was quite the turn of events and the whole encounter lasted maybe 7 seconds. I almost never see this neighbor and have never spoken to him. We’ve tried to say hello but he has always ignored us. I know he has a wife/girlfriend and toddler but we never see them oustide. None of our neighbors know this family either and we’re not sure if they own the house or are renting. We live in a very quiet neighborhood in Ward 7 so this sort of thing is unheard of. My wife was inside with our baby and dog and they came running out to see what the deal was since the guy was shouting so loud they could hear him from upstairs. By that time he had already run back into his house. Our dog was going nuts and we are all still a little shaken up.

Anyway, we called 911 and he was arrested and hauled off to jail but of course was out by the next day. I also went to the ER and got treated and have had several follow-up medical appointments since Saturday. He came by 4 times on Sunday to knock/bang on our door and we called 911 again and the police came and told him to leave us alone. He told the police he was schizophrenic. (more…)

car break

Let this be another of our many, many, many, many, many reminders to never leave anything of value in your parked car even if for only a few minutes. Having said that, sorry this happened to OP.

A reader reports from Columbia Heights:

“This happened in broad daylight. Footage was given to the police.”

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I live in the 1500 block of 5th St, NW, in Shaw. Recently, the area’s seen a huge increase in the number of package thefts reported in the Third District. In fact, on the first day that we installed a security camera, we saw someone stealing packages from our front porch (it happened on 1/5/17). We filed a police report but haven’t had any luck identifying the person responsible.

On March 16, 2017, we were struck again by package thieves – this time they were two young black men (late teens or early 20s). I’ve attached the video of this latest left in hopes of drawing attention to this disturbing trend and to hopefully identify the perpetrators. In the video it looks like one of them has a DC Water ID tag hanging from his pants’ pocket. Please let us know if you recognize these two individuals!”

stolen tires
photo from a previous incident last year

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve noticed a couple cars in the Capitol Hill and Kingman Park neighborhoods (where I live) propped up on cinderblocks with their tires stolen. I saw a Toyota Camry at 13th and D streets in that condition yesterday morning, and late last week saw one near 14th and Maryland.

Is this something you’ve been seeing/hearing reports of?

I guess a Camry could have a specialty tires on it, but short of that I’m confused as to why a Camry would be targeted (as the driver of a pretty popular, fairly standard vehicle (just don’t tell that to my car).”

Ed. Note: Last year we had a number of incidents from Shaw but I haven’t heard of any others in Capitol Hill recently. It seems to come in waves all over the District every 6 months or so.
