12th and U Street, NW

“The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit and run crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Northwest.
On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Third District officers responded to the intersection of 12th Street and U Street, Northwest for the report of a crash. On scene officers located an adult male lying in the roadway unconscious and not breathing after being struck by a vehicle. The man was transported to an area hospital where after all lifesaving measures failed, he was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was struck by a white Hyundai Santa Fe while in a marked crosswalk at the intersection. The striking vehicle fled the scene.
The decedent has been identified as 55-year-old Donnel Bracket Phillips, of Northeast, DC.
Detectives believe that prior to the crash the suspect vehicle was involved in the two robbery offenses listed below: (more…)

Update from Metro Transit Police:
“We can confirm an MTPD officer was involved in an off-property shooting in which a suspect was struck and sustained what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The officer is not injured, and a weapon has been recovered from the scene.”

Ed. Note: Yesterday we learned that MPD had arrested a 14 and a 13 year old suspects for robbery on the MBT on Thursday April 24th.

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrests of three juveniles in connection to multiple robbery offenses in Northeast.
On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, shortly before 6:00 p.m., Fifth District officers responded for a report of a group of juveniles snatching headphones from victims on the Metropolitan Branch Trail. Officers canvassed the area and with the assistance of MPD’s Helicopter, Falcon One, multiple suspects were located and placed under arrest. Stolen property was recovered.
