A reader reports:

“Be aware, I was jumped by 3 teenagers Saturday night around 8pm. Lighting is nonexistent in front of the library and the construction trailer narrows pathway and blocks visibility from others. A good spot for an assault. Stay away….It occurred between I St. and Wesley Pl., SW @ the SW Library. Yes, the incident was reported to police. Robbed, no. Injured, yes. I got my head bashed in pretty good. I think I have a concussion. I got lucky, I was walking my buddy’s dog (pitbull mix) and after they hit me I didn’t go down all the way or blackout & screamed MOLLY, GET’EM and they scattered. She is tough looking but just gentle giant and just stood there wagging her tail.”

From the The Office of the Attorney General (OAG):

“Do you use the car sharing application called “Getaround” to rent your vehicle and make some extra cash? Use the app with caution. OAG has learned of more than 75 recent auto thefts in the District that we believe are connected to the use of this app.

How does Getaround work?
Getaround is an app that allows consumers to rent vehicles by the hour or day from owners who make them available through its online platform. Consumers can create a profile on Getaround and search for cars based on location and type of vehicle. After a rental request is submitted and approved by the owner, consumers can go to the car’s location and unlock the vehicle using the app on their smartphone. Keys to the vehicle are left inside and consumers return the car at the end of their rental period. (more…)
