“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Armed Carjacking and Kidnapping offense that occurred on Thursday, June 4, 2020, in the 1200 block of Mount Olivet Road, Northeast.

At approximately 3:03 pm, the suspect approached the victim at the listed location. The suspect brandished two handguns and attempted to take the victim’s vehicle. The victim refused and fled the scene. The suspect then entered an establishment and held a second victim against their will. (more…)

Two People Were Killed in that Terrible Hit and Run in Bloomingdale Last Sunday, an arrest has been made.

Ed. Note: With our recent coverage focusing almost entirely on the protests I have been deficient in some posts that I would normally cover. I will continue to focus on the protests but include other posts as well. I especially did want to update what happened in Bloomingdale last Sunday because two people were sadly killed. One was 81-year-old Donald Malloy.

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a hit and run traffic crash with a double traffic fatality that occurred on Sunday, May 31, 2020, between the intersection of Bryant Street and North Capitol Street, Northeast.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 6:25 pm, a vehicle was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed and struck another vehicle in the intersection of Bryant Street and North Capitol Street, Northeast. The driver of the striking vehicle exited his car and then fled on foot. (more…)

Thanks to all who shared word of the 7pm curfew tonight and tomorrow night from the Mayor’s press conference:

“The curfew runs from 7 PM to 6 AM both nights.

There are several exemptions from the curfew:
* Anyone voting or participating in tomorrow’s election activities (e.g., poll workers & volunteers);
* Essential workers when engaged in essential functions; &
* Anyone traveling to a hospital/urgent care.”

“We are less than a week away from opening and tonight we got hit by looters. The property is damaged and we got robbed. It’s 4 am and we are sad, angry, and exhausted. But this will not change who we are. Screw the looters. God bless the actual protestors. Anyone willing to stand up and fight for their rights and the rights of others is still welcome here.

Regarding the photo above, Dan reports:

Driver evading police loses control and drives into TD bank at 15th and P. Took off on foot. MPD pulled about 30 liquor bottles out of the trunk. The occupants didnt get far and were detained outside of Milkbar. A fair amount of vandalism in the immediate area, but nothing that cant be fixed or is more important than healing the wounds that caused this unrest.”

About the Emergency Response on North Capitol – Car Crash and “the perpetrator ran off and was shedding his clothes and shoes but disappeared running” also some serious onlooker heroism

Thanks to Janet for sending at 7pm: “Sunday crash on North Capitol. At Bryant ST. Two people injured. Small explosion and fire. Black SUV T-boned the grey Nissan with two passengers. Onlookers had fire extinguishers to put out the burning car. They also pulled the people out of the car before emergency personnel arrived.

According to a neighbor the perpetrator ran off and was shedding his clothes and shoes but disappeared running down Bryant St towards First Street NW.”

Another reader shares: “I’m on Bryant and heard from a neighbor that another very heroic neighbor of ours used his garden hose to put out the fire and preformed CPR on one of the passengers before the fire/ambulance got here.”

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Chief of Police Peter Newsham provided an update following last night’s protests in Washington, DC.

Below is the Mayor’s statement, as delivered.

I want to start by saying we certainly recognize and empathize with the outrage that people feel following the killing in Minneapolis last week. And we certainly empathize that the killing of George Floyd wasn’t the first, and that people are expressing outrage and demanding action.

We also recognize that we are proud of our city and we do not want our city to be destroyed.

So our police, and firefighters, and members of the public safety team for Washington, DC, along with our federal partners, have been working to make sure people can exercise their First Amendment rights, while not destroying Washington, DC.”

9:30pm Shooting on Georgia Ave in Petworth; 10:38pm Shooting in the 400 block of 2nd St NW and a macing and stabbing in Navy Yard at 11:04pm and one very loud “boom” reported from NoMa at 11:36pm

“On Friday May 29, 2020, at approximately 2130 hours, Fourth District units responded to the 3700 block of Georgia AVE NW, in reference to a call for Sounds of Gunshots. While canvassing the area, they located 1 adult victim, with injuries to the head. The victim was conscious and breathing, suffering from non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The only lookout we have at this time, is for several juvenile males.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to call MPD on 202-727-9099 or send a text to 50411.”

One reader reported: “Woman in car was shot through windscreen in face (by crossfire?) and drove around the corner to that park to call for help (my friend called 911 for them). Miraculously conscious. She witnessed multiple shooters” (more…)
