11th and Vermont Ave, NW

A reader reports: “shots fired around 11 PM last night at 11th and Vermont NW by Logan Circle. Woke up to 4-5 VERY loud, distinct shots, and not seconds later cops were swarming the area. Hard to tell in picture but cops were out with flashlights, seemed like they were looking at cars for bullet holes or casings.” (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

My friend’s Ring video camera caught a man peeping into her windows and trying to record her with his cellphone last night around 11:45PM in the area of 17th and U Streets NW. Her upstairs neighbor told her last week that she saw a man in a green hat (same as the one in the photos) staring into her windows. The man left when her husband walked out onto their balcony. She set up the video camera after that. [See video here.] A police report has been filed.”

“MPD seeks assistance in identifying a suspect in a Peeping Tom offense that occurred on 10/7/20 in the 1700 blk of Willard Street, NW.

I haven’t seen any official word but per usual the ever present Alan Henney has a bit of detail:

“SHOTS FIRED INVESTIGATION– Police are investigating after report of exchange of gunfire INSIDE a business at 7th and T Sts NW-DC in the Shaw area. Nobody was found injured.” (more…)

“The Third District and First District are currently investigating a shooting that is believed to have taken place in the area of New York Avenue and North Capitol Street NW. An adult male victim walked into an area hospital with gunshot wounds, indicating that the incident took place in that area.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

Unrelated but a bit later around 1:30am MPD reported: “Shooting in the 1000 block of 12th St, SE. LOF a silver SUV” (more…)

Hannah writes: “any updates on the shooting from early this morning located at the 1200 block of 1st St NE? I got a DC crime alert update at 3:46AM

The MPD alert said: “Shooting in the 1200 b/o 1st St, NE. Lookout for 3-5 males wearing all black clothing.”

At 4:34am an alert was sent out that reported a: “Shooting in the 1800 b/o 3rd St, NE. No lookout.”

No further details on those incidents have been released yet.

However regarding and incident earlier in the day, MPD issued the following release:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, October 5, 2020, in 1100 block of 1st Street, Northwest.

At approximately 2:33 pm, members of the First District responded to the listed location after hearing the sounds of gunshots. (more…)

From MPD:

“A little before 6 PM this evening officers were in the area near the 1300 block of Half St. SW when they heard the sound of gunshots. They responded to that location and located an adult female victim that had received a gunshot wound to the lower extremity. She was transported to hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injury. Investigation revealed that the victim was walking in the block when a vehicle traveled by and opened fire.

Anyone who may have any information about this offense or cameras in the area is encouraged to contact the First District Detectives Office at 202-299-2025 and reference case # 20141968. Thank you.”

Alan Henney first about the incident above around 11:40pmreported:

“SHOOTING, UPPER NW DC— Male walked into McDonalds at Wisconsin Ave and Van Ness St NW-DC. He may have been shot near 40th St and Wisconsin Ave in North Cleveland Park/Tenleytown area. He has been struck in the arm. Police searching for a crime scene.

update on Tenleytown shooting: Approx. 75yr-old man was in his car near the firehouse when a pedestrian fired shot(s) into the auto injuring his arm. He then drove to McDonalds for help.”

MPD later reported what would be a shooting homicide at the gas station on Connecticut Ave across the street from Politics and Prose: “Confirmed Shooting in the 4900 block of Connecticut Ave NW. Lookout for: 2 B/M’s DARK COMPLXN, TALLER POSSIBLY WEARING NEW BALANCE TENNIS SHOES.”

On that The Washington Post reported:

“The shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. near Connecticut and Nebraska avenues NW, according to a police official.

The victim was not identified immediately but appeared to be a teenager or young man, police said. It appeared that he was shot twice, the official said.”
