“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District and Agents from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau announce an arrest in an Armed Robbery offense and are investigating a Special Police Officer involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, February 25, 2021, in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue, Northeast.

From MPD: “On Thursday, February 25, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Fourth District units responded for a one car accident in the 1700 block of Michigan Avenue NE. Upon arriving the officer discovered the driver appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. As the Officers were conducting their investigating the Driver armed himself with a gun and refused to exit the vehicle. After hours of negations the driver surrendered peacefully without incident and was placed under arrest.”

“At approximately 2353 hours last night, a complainant reported to MPD units that the driver of an unknown black sedan fired a gunshot at their vehicle while they were traveling south in the 3rd Street Tunnel at Massachusetts Ave NW. The complainant was not injured, but their vehicle was stuck by a single bullet. The complainant believes this may be related to the other vehicle being offended by their driving.

“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), co-chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus, sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas asking that their departments’ helicopters in the District of Columbia fly at higher altitudes, limit nighttime flights and flights over residential areas, and provide advance notice to residents of prolonged training in a particular area.

“D.C. residents contact me frequently about helicopter noise in their neighborhoods,” Norton said. “Residents say that it affects their sleep and their ability to think and have conversations, and that it can cause structural damage to their homes.” Norton asked for a written response by March 19th.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch and Agents from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating a homicide and an officer involved shooting that occurred on Friday, February 19, 2021, in the 6000 block of Chillum Place, Northeast.

At approximately 5:58 pm, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, officers observed a suspect armed with a firearm. After the suspect ignored multiple commands, an officer discharged their firearm striking the suspect. Additionally, officers located an adult male, in front of an establishment, suffering from a gunshot wound. (more…)
