“The Fourth District is investigating an Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm and Destruction of Property that occurred on March 26, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of Illinois Avenue NW. The suspects are described as two black males 20-30 years old who fled in a grey SUV South on Illinois Avenue NW. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099.”

He was simply at work yesterday evening, providing for his family, when his life was tragically taken in an appalling act of violence. The details are still being investigated, however we know that Anwar was working on an UberEats delivery when two assailants attempted to carjack him in Navy Yard.

Anwar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who always provided a smile when you needed one. He leaves behind a family, near and far, who cherish, love, and miss him dearly. (more…)

Update from MPD: “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce two arrests have been made in reference to a Homicide and Armed Carjacking (Taser) offense that occurred on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, in the 1200 block of Van Street, Southeast.

At approximately 4:31 pm, members of the First District responded to listed location for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 66 year-old Mohammad Anwar, of Springfield, VA.

The Detectives’ investigation on the scene revealed that the suspects assaulted the victim with a taser while carjacking the victim which resulted in a motor vehicle accident.

On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, a 13 year-old juvenile female, of Southeast, DC, and a 15 year-old juvenile female, of Fort Washington, MD, were arrested and charged with Felony Murder and Armed Carjacking (Taser).

Yikes, thanks to Alex for sending at 11:21am: “Someone crashed into the lobby of the Drake on 17th and Mass and drove away. My dad lives in the building. He said a car drove the wrong way up 17th, got on the sidewalk, hit the cars that were parked on the street, crashed into the building and drove off.
