“Seventeen people were arrested today following their indictments on federal charges in connection with an ongoing investigation by the FBI/Metropolitan Police Department Safe Streets Task Force into a network that trafficked heroin, cocaine, and marijuana from Texas to the Washington, D.C. area. The drugs were then distributed in the Washington, D.C. area.

In addition to the arrests today, in the Washington, D.C. area, two defendants already were in custody. Seven others were apprehended in McAllen, Texas on Nov. 18, 2013.

The arrests and charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr., Valerie Parlave, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, and Cathy L. Lanier, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

The defendants are among those named in two indictments returned on Nov. 7, 2013, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The indictments, partially unsealed, charge the defendants with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine, and marijuana. Some of the defendants also are charged with conspiracy to launder monetary instruments. Both indictments also include a forfeiture allegation seeking all proceeds derived from the crimes, as well as assets used to commit the offenses. If convicted, the defendants face a minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office and MPD were joined in the law enforcement action this week by the FBI San Antonio Field Office’s McAllen Resident Agency; the U.S. Park Police; the U.S. Marshals Service; the U.S. Bureau of Prisons; the Prince George’s County, Md. Police Department; the Hidalgo County, Texas Sheriff’s Office, and the San Juan, Texas Police Department.

A total of 17 locations and four vehicles locations were searched today in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Authorities seized 18 guns, heroin, PCP and cash. (more…)

“On Saturday, November 16, 2013 at approximately 9:45 PM, a complainant reported that he was the victim of a Robbery. The complainant reported that while on a Metro bus in the 1200 block of H Street, NE. A suspect approached him, produced a knife and demanded his property. After obtaining the complainant’s property the suspect left the scene. The complainant observed an Officer in the 1200 block of H Street and advised him about what had just happened. The officer immediately gave a description of the suspect to other officers in the PSA. Within moments a suspect was stopped and after an investigation by Detectives from the First District the suspect was placed under arrest for Robbery.”

“Officers and Detectives have been investigating a series of burglaries occurring in various areas in the Fourth District. A burglary arrest warrant was issued for an adult male and he was located and apprehended in the 1200 blk of Taylor St NW this afternoon.

Fourth District Detectives are currently reviewing recent cases for a possible connections for Fourth District burglaries.

“On November 4, 2013, at approximately 11:30PM while at 14th and Oak Street, Northwest, the complainant reported he was riding his bicycle northbound when the suspect brandished a belt buckle and struck the complainant with the buckle and took the complainant’s bicycle. The complainant chased the defendant and recovered the bicycle when the defendant fell off it. The complainant flagged down Fourth District officers and advised them of the assault and theft. A canvass was conducted and officers were able to arrest the suspect. The suspect was charged with Robbery Force and Violence. The complainant suffered minor injuries.”

“At approximately 2 PM today in the 2800 block of Ontario Pl., Northwest, a member of the Third District while on patrol observed a subject lying on the porch of a home in the block as to not be seen by the home owners.

The subject was observed reaching out and stealing a package and walk west in the block.

The subject was stopped immediately and placed under arrest. The adult male of Northwest DC will be questioned about other similar cases in the district.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department have announced an arrest has been made in connection with the First Degree Sexual Assault while Armed that occurred in the 700 block of 12th Street, SE.

On Sunday, October 27, 2013, at 8:30 pm, an adult victim was walking in the area when she was approached by an unknown male. The suspect produced a knife and forced the victim to the 700 block of 12th Street, SE, where he sexually assaulted her.

The suspect was stopped a short time later and positively identified and placed under arrest. Arrested was 26-year-old Darius Nelson of no fixed address, and charged with First Degree Sexual Assault while Armed.”

“On Saturday October 26, 2013 at about 9:20 PM, an adult male was the victim of an Armed Robbery in the 300 block of A Street NE. The victim was approached by three suspects, one who displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s property. After obtaining various items from the victim, all three suspects fled south on 3rd Street. Within moments, both MPD and US Capitol Officers arrived on the scene and a lookout for the suspects was obtained and broadcasted. Several minutes later, two 1D Officers spotted three suspect who matched the description in the 600 block of PA Ave SE. After a brief foot chase, all three were stopped. Two of the subjects were identified by the complainant and placed under arrest. The victim’s property was recovered, as well as the weapon used in the offense.

This case was closed due to the efforts of all Officers involved, resulting in the arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of both the weapon and victim property. I also want to acknowledge the assistance of US Capitol Police, who not only assisted with the initial report but also worked with MPD for hours as we searched for the weapon.”

“-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting which occurred in the 700 block of Fairmont Street, NW.

On Thursday, July 4, 2013 at approximately 11:29 pm, patrol officers from the Third District responded to the 700 block of Fairmont Street, NW for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 22 year-old Omar Sykes of Northwest, Washington, DC.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at approximately 9:45 am, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 26 year-old Rasdavid Lagarde of Northeast, Washington, D.C. He was charged with First Degree Felony Murder While Armed in the shooting death of Omar Sykes.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District announced an arrest has been made in the unarmed carjacking which occurred in the 2000 block of 10th Street, NW.

On Monday, October 14, 2013, at approximately 12:49 pm, an unarmed carjacking occurred in the 2000 block of 10th Street, NW. A suspect got into the driver’s seat of a victim’s vehicle and drove away. A look-out was provided, and a short time later, members of the First District observed the vehicle being involved in a traffic accident in the 1300 block of A Street SE. The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot. However, the First District officers quick action resulted in the apprehension of the suspect.

Arrested and charged with the unarmed carjacking which occurred in the 2000 block of 10th Street, NW was 19 year-old Walter Goodman of Northeast, Washington, D.C.”

“On Saturday at approximately 1:23 AM, PSA 104 officers were flagged down by a citizen who advised that he was just robbed. The citizen reported that he was approached by two male suspects in the 700 Block of F Street, Northeast. He stated that one of the suspects produced a gun and demanded his property. Both suspects ran from the area after obtaining the citizen’s property. The first Officers on the scene quickly obtained a lookout and broadcasted it to other officers on patrol in the PSA. Within moments the officers apprehend two suspects that were hiding under a deck of a house in the 700 block of 7th Street NE. The citizens property was recovered and both suspects were placed under arrest for Robbery.”
