“Over the course of the last week, several robberies have occurred on the Metropolitan Branch Trail. As a result of diligent investigative work, conducted by the Fifth District Detective’s Unit, several suspects were developed.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, members of the Fifth District’s Crime Suppression Team conducted operations in the area of the Metropolitan Branch Trail, in an effort to locate and apprehend the suspects involved in this string of recent robberies along the trail. (more…)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, announce an arrest has been made in a 1998 Homicide and a 1996 First Degree Sexual Abuse Offense.

Between May 6, 1991, and August 1, 1998, a single assailant, locally known as the “Potomac River Rapist,” is alleged to have sexually assaulted eight women, attempted another sexual assault, and committed one homicide in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The victims ranged in age from 18 to 41 years old. (more…)

“On 10/27/19 at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the First District responded to the 200 block of 2nd Street NW for a report of a man in the street threatening people with a gun. On the scene, officers located a small group of people who reported that during an argument, a male suspect pulled out a gun, struck one victim and threatened to shoot the other victims. (more…)

“On 10/9/19, at approximately 1:40 a.m., officers from the First District responded to the 600 block of 4th Place SW for a report of a home invasion. The homeowner of the residence was awakened to find an adult male suspect tampering with his rear patio door. As the homeowner called for MPD to respond, the suspect shattered the patio door glass with a shovel and entered the home. “Tonight at approximately 7:15 PM, during a road rage incident, an aggressive driver brandished a firearm at another motorist on the 11th Street Bridge SE. Based on the rapid response by patrol and crime suppression officers, the suspect and vehicle were located near 3rd St SE and L St SE. With help from our K9 team, we were able to locate a firearm and arrest the suspect for ADW-Gun.”

“Officers in the Third District recovered 2 illegal firearms in the Columbia Heights area today. The first gun was recovered during the execution of a search warrant in the 3000 block of 14th Street NW. The second gun was recovered on the 2800 block of 14th Street NW. Arrests were made in both cases.

We will continue our efforts to remove illegal firearms from our community and hold those individuals who have them accountable.”

“On September 26, 2019 at approximately 9:30 pm, members of the Fourth District observed an adult male in the 4900 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, who appeared to armed with a gun. (more…)

“Around 1133am today, officers were flagged down by 3 adult complainants at 12th and G Street NE where they advised that an adult male just pulled a gun on them and robbed them of their belongings in the alley. Officers in that area where able to share the description and within minutes they were able to apprehend the subject after a foot pursuit. Officers were able to recover the stolen property that was discarded during the foot chase as well as the weapon that was used in the robbery. (more…)

“On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at approximately 6:10 pm, Second District Officers were in the area of the 3300 block of Water Street, NW, Georgetown Waterfront Park, conducting an investigation when they observed an adult male jump into the water. MPD Harbor Patrol Officers responded to the scene and pulled the man out of the water. He was conscious and breathing when he was rescued. The man was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.”

An Eyewitness reported yesterday (Thursday):

“At approximately 5:15 pm this afternoon, four individuals attempted to carjack a vehicle parked at the corner of Third and D Streets, SE, near Brent Elementary and St. Peter’s School. The driver, who was sitting in an unlocked vehicle waiting to meet his child when she was dropped off from camp, resisted and the four fled from the scene by foot. (more…)
