From Bardo:

“Known for the largest beer garden in the city, Bardo Brewpub is opening in a new building. A structure located on the Bardo property has been refurbished and remodeled, and will open to the public Thursday, Nov 6th. The newly renovated interior boasts one hundred year old pine floors, brick walls and early century, press plate ceilings.

Research has shown that the only building permit granted to the address occured in 1914, making the structure 100 years old. “The building had really good bones, it just needed a little TLC”, commented Bardo spokesman, Andrew Stewart. “The brick walls had been covered in plaster for 70+ years and tar paper from a previous linoleum floor was stuck to the hardwood.”

A wide variety of GABF award winning house brews are available in pints and pitchers as well as growlers. Bardo is 100% dog friendly every day with 15,000 square feet in our beer garden to roam off leash. Located at 1216 Bladensburg rd NE, Bardo has cornhole, big screen movie viewings/sports and is available for private parties/fundraisers, large and small, with no charge for the space.”

In other beer news – back in March we heard 1412 Hops & Vine would be opening in the old Indigo Frenzy boutique space by Trusty’s and Wisdom. Well they’ve since been renamed Pipetown Traders and are now open. Their twitter, @pipetowntraders, says:

“Local wine and craft beer store, with a selection that will make your head spin. We’re glass half empty kind of people, come see why…”

Anyone check out the selection?

hellbender

From an email:

Hellbender Brewing Company of Washington, D.C. is proud to announce that it will launch its first DC-made beer on Wednesday, November 5th. Hellbender’s first release – the Red Line Ale – will be launched on November 5th at the Iron Horse Taproom in Chinatown (507 7th St, NW). The Red Line is a roasty, hoppy take on the classic American Red Ale style and measures in at 6% ABV and 35 IBUs. We named it the Red Line Ale in honor, of course, of DC’s most (in)famous metro line which runs directly behind the brewery and once derailed on our property long before we took possession.

The Eft IPA and Bare Bones Kölsch will join the Red Line Ale in the year-round flagship lineup later in November as they become available. Hellbender Brewing Company is located at 5788 2nd Street, NE.”

Big (lower) Barracks Row news from Washington Business Journal:

“Gaunoux, who has partnered with Mark Brody and Chris Chambers (of H Street NE’s Biergarten Haus) on this project, described the beer garden as a “one-story structure with a bar and some food,” and perhaps live music. He expects to break ground next week.”

We first heard about this project back in November 2010. It’s located on lower Barracks Row past the bridge towards Navy Yard. Updates as construction progresses.

From a press release:

Saturday, October 18 – 1:00 to 4:00 PM
Bardo – 1200 Bladensburg Rd, NE
No cover; $10 per barbecue plate

On October 18, 2014, the DC Homebrewers will host its third annual barbecue fundraiser at Bardo Brewpub on Bladensburg Road in Washington, DC. The annual barbecue serves as a chance for the all-volunteer club to showcase and educate its members and the public on the art of homebrewing, alternate brewing techniques, and sensory panels to help new and advanced homebrewers expand their brewing and beer knowledge.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the club’s educational programming and this year’s charity, the Common Good City Farm, an urban farm and education center located on a half-acre lot in LeDroit Park. Their mission is to grow food, educate, and help low-income DC community members meet their food needs and provide educational opportunities for all. For more information, visit here.

Admission to the event is free. A $10 food ticket includes a plate of barbecue (a vegetarian option will be available) and two sides. Some hand-crafted soda will also be available. A variety of beers by Bardo Brewpub will be available for $4. Buy tickets in advance here.

During the afternoon, DC Homebrewers members will be offering a homebrewing demonstration, a variety of educational beer talks, and a raffle. Visit dchomebrewers.com to learn more about the club and join the email list.”
