A reader writes in this morning’s rant/revel:

Halftime Sports Bar on H Street should be open now. I went by last night around 7pm for a drink and it was closed and dark inside. Does anyone know why? I find it hard to believe a sports bar would be closed on Mondays.”

Their website says:

“Hours
Mon-Thu: 12PM – 2AM
Fri-Sat: 12PM – 2AM
Sun: 12PM – 2AM”

Anyone able to stop in and check it out?

I took a peek in the window on Saturday morning:

Daggers continue to fall in Mt. Pleasant. Thanks to @kkbb138 for letting us know about Tonic’s abrupt closure in Mt. Pleasant. From their facebook page:

“To our wonderful patrons:

UPDATE: Kevin from Lyman’s now says that the Post “jumped the gun” a bit and is not opening at 11am today. Should be soon though. Will update when I hear directly from Kevin. Sorry about the false excitement. If all goes with a few minor details they could be open by 5pm today.

Update: Opened at 630pm!

We took a sneak peek of the sweet space exactly a month ago. The wait ends today soon! Washington Post reports:

“Lyman’s Tavern opens for business at 11 a.m. Monday.

It’s a one-room saloon with half a dozen draft beers, four pinball machines, a killer jukebox and free popcorn fresh from a popper behind the bar.”

A couple weeks ago Lyman’s teased us with a shot of their pinball machines on Facebook:

While Red Derby has set the bar extremely high for great neighborhood spots, it looks like Lyman’s will be an exceptionally worthy neighbor – can’t wait to finally see for myself!

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“I know we had discussed this one in the past, and shortly after the activity on site ceased for months. Well guys are finally back to work, with a new permit that says adding third level with roof deck patio.”

The Spot On H is coming to the former Baitul Khair space at the corner of 13th and H St, NE. Their original liquor license placard said:

“New Restaurant, offering American Cuisine, Entertainment Endorsement to include 2 to 3 piece Jazz Band, Summer Garden with 35 seats. Number of seats inside is 88, with total occupancy load of 126.”

On the heels of news of Bangkok Joe’s closing comes some potentially great news for the Georgetown Waterfront. Thanks to a reader for sending word:

“Orange Anchor by Reese Gardner opening in former Cabana’s space at Washington Harbour.”

Orange Anchor’s website says:

“Orange Anchor is a nautical inspired, casual fine dining restaurant featuring a scratch kitchen and craft bar. Our menu consists of seasonal small bites, Maryland crabs, a la cart proteins and shared sides, all sourced locally.

The bar program will be highlighted by fresh squeezed orange cocktails and a large selection of rare rums. Customers will enter into a rustic nautical environment where everything tells a story and everyone is treated like a captain.”

From an email:

“For the ninth year, Esquire’s favorite drinking partner and the world’s foremost cocktail historian, David Wondrich, names the nation’s best places to have a drink.”

KELLY’S IRISH TIMES [14 F Street, NW]:

“This is the kind of place where a president will take his annual Saint Paddy’s Day sip o’ Guinness. If D. C. had an official designated dive, this would be it. The depth to which they pour their Irish whiskey makes up for any coolness from the bartenders.”
