THURS: Lexicon Classic Cocktails with Dan Series
Craft bartender Dan Searing is already known for his encyclopedic knowledge of spirits and their history. Starting Thursday, April 14th in the Reading Room, he’s bringing that knowledge to the people. Welcome to LEXICON, our newest cocktail series. Every first and third Thursday, Dan will make drinks from a classic cocktail manual. First up: drinks from a bootlegger’s guide, disguised as German poetry. (People got creative to get buzzed during those years…)”

There have long been rumors that a horse faced hillbilly with little personality had plans to open a bar in this long vacant space near the Blue Banana. Looks like he finally got it done and it’s called DC Reynolds (pronounced RAY-nolds, I believe). It’s a bit ordinary when you first walk in but it has a phenomenal back patio and a decent happy hour too. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood!!

Following in the footsteps of Boundary Stone? The liquor license placard out front of Showtime says:
“Applicant requests an expansion of the premises to include a Total Occupancy Load of 78 with 46 seats.”
Cool.

Hilltop Opening Soon?
“This was their last update on their Facebook page:
The Hilltop Bar & Restaurant
March 13 at 6:16pm ·
We’ve had a lot of random passersby and almost as many FB messages asking when we’re really, actually going to finally open… we’re shooting for late May (June 1st at the absolute latest). See you then!
This must be the slowest opening in the history of DC bars.”

From a press release:
“Radiator (www.radiatordc.com), a cocktail bar and neighborhood gathering place featuring contemporary American small plates with global influences, will open on April 19 off the 14th Street corridor at 1430 Rhode Island Ave. NW. Radiator nods to the spirit of its surroundings in both its name – a reference to 14th Street’s rich automotive past – and lively, engaging experience. The bar is located adjacent to the new Mason & Rook Hotel.
“We’re embracing the shift toward unpretentious dining, while remaining mindful of quality and craft in both food and drink,” says Lead Bartender Sarah Rosner, who helms the beverage program. “Radiator is first and foremost a hangout spot for the neighborhood where you can grab fun, funky bar snacks or more composed large-format plates alongside your perfectly made cocktail.”

No more denying it. Tonight’s the last night. And Shoes McCoat‘s photo really brought it home for me:
“Get ’em while you can . Last call for #jelloshots Millie & Als.”

From The Commodore Public House & Kitchen Facebook:
“Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen issues with changing our trade name, we will be opening (Thursday) for the time being under the old trade name, Veranda. The concept and changes will all represent that of ‘The Commodore’. We apologize in advance for any confusion this has or may cause. We promise to get this issue straightened up as soon as possible.”
Ed. Note: I don’t think anyone really cares about the official name, yeah? Anyway, happy to hear they’re finally reopening. If anyone stops by on Thursday let us know what you think about the changes via email to [email protected] or on twitter @PoPville. Thanks!
Update – they open at 5pm – menu after the jump. (more…)
