“Shelter will be one of two bars in the 12,500 SF space (the other, of course, being Show of Hands). It will have many of the key design elements that one would expect from a Greg Engert beer bar: a large number of taps (50 to be exact), a temperature-controlled system, rigorous line cleaning, and extensive glassware – all important elements that ensure the beers we’re serving taste exactly as they would if the guest were to enjoy them at the brewery from which they came. With near frenetic-rotation, Greg plans to pour close to 1,000 different beers annually on draft. (more…)

Help me find someplace to celebrate David Berman’s life and works tonight!?”

From Pitchfork: “David Berman, the poet and songwriter known for his projects Silver Jews and Purple Mountains, has died. Drag City confirmed the news; his cause of death has not been confirmed. He was 52 years old.”

Ed. Note: I feel like Showtime would be a good place to morn but don’t know if they’re doing anything official. Anyone hear of a proper gathering to morn a great one.

Request to add 76 seats and standing room for 116 on the first floor, increasing total capacity to 282. Expansion also includes request for a second Summer Garden on the second floor with a capacity of 211. “Columbia Room (124 Blagden Alley NW) is set to debut the first tasting menu created by newly appointed Beverage Manager Paul Taylor on Tuesday, August 6. The menu, titled “So Bad, It’s Good,” pays homage to once-lowbrow drinks with high-low mashup creations that are simultaneously nostalgic and forward-thinking.

The So Bad, It’s Good menu features four courses, each presenting a re-imagined throwback cocktail alongside an equally imaginative food pairing from Columbia Room Culinary Director Johnny Spero.
