I think this might be the first former Caribou not to become a Peet’s…
“Dear PoPville,
Saw these guys putting up the “Retail space for lease” sign at 1800 M building. A collective “NOOOOOOOO” let out in my office when I told everyone.”

Culture Coffee opened up back in Nov. of last year. A great score for that former coffee desert. Now they’ve applied for a liquor license too (I think Qualia and Filter might be the last coffee shops left without liquor licenses…)
The liquor license placard also has one of the funnier typos I’ve seen:
“Coffee Shop that serves sandwiches, pastries, snakes. Entertainment Endorsement/Cover Charge, Open Music, Poetry, Book Readings. Occupancy load 15.”
Hours of operation are listed as Sunday: 10am – 5pm, Monday through Friday: 7am – 10pm, Saturday: 8am – 10pm.

Harrar Coffee and Roastery is located at 2904 Georgia Ave, NW.
From an email:
“We have this Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony going every Saturday mornings at 11:30am, when we roast a specialty coffee and offer consumers free samples. During the ceremony, our barista also wear traditional Ethiopian clothing and we talk about the tradition.”

Recently renovated building at 20th and L Street, NW
Thanks to @SamanthaPollack for tweeting us word about the new signage:

Thanks to a reader for sending this double cool shot – a sweet sweet ride – and it looks like the Starbucks coming to O Street between 8th and 9th St, NW should be opening soon.

Compass Coffee’s facebook page says:
“Compass Coffee – Real good coffee coming to Washington, DC. Summer 2014.
We are a new cafe and roastery dedicated to making real good coffee. We import our beans from all over the world and roast them on site in our cafe to ensure we produce the best tasting coffee in the city.”
With La Colombe in Blagden Alley, The Coffee Bar at 12th and S St, NW and Wydown coming to 14th Street – Shaw is becoming a seriously solid coffee spot.
They’ll be right next door to Ivy and Coney:

Still have a bit to go – but nice progress from a former laundromat:

Thanks to @WeinDC for tweeting us word and photos of Starbucks closing for renovations at the corner of 7th and H St, NW:

The former Tibet Shop which hoped to become a liquor store will now become Heat Da Spot Coffee & More. The permit posted out front says it’ll be a deli and coffee shop:
