Compass Coffee’s facebook page says:

“Compass Coffee – Real good coffee coming to Washington, DC. Summer 2014.

We are a new cafe and roastery dedicated to making real good coffee. We import our beans from all over the world and roast them on site in our cafe to ensure we produce the best tasting coffee in the city.”

With La Colombe in Blagden Alley, The Coffee Bar at 12th and S St, NW and Wydown coming to 14th Street – Shaw is becoming a seriously solid coffee spot.

They’ll be right next door to Ivy and Coney:

Still have a bit to go – but nice progress from a former laundromat:

The former Tibet Shop which hoped to become a liquor store will now become Heat Da Spot Coffee & More. The permit posted out front says it’ll be a deli and coffee shop:

14th and Rhode Island Avenue, NW

Yesterday we learned the first Peet’s had opened at 17th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW. Lots of folks were curious about the status of the Logan Circle location at 14th and Rhode Island Avenue, NW. I’m happy to have finally tracked down that date – their PR rep tells me that the Logan Circle location will be one of the last to transition and will open in early December.

UPDATE: Some communication problems from the Peet’s folks. Now a rep tells me that there is no known date for a Logan location. I specifically asked if they will be opening in this location (even in a new building) and all the could confirm was that there is no opening date and they would update me “as soon as we have more information.” I’m gonna take that as a maybe…

From a press release:

“Peet’s Coffee & Tea, a specialty coffee and tea company that started the artisan coffee movement back in 1966, today announced its first major retail launch in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area. The company will open 23 new stores in a phased rollout across the market this year, employing approximately 350 people. A flagship store at 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue, just steps from the White House, opens today. Peet’s entry into D.C. will become the company’s second largest retail market outside of California and its biggest East Coast retail footprint.

In an effort to support the local community, Peet’s is partnering with local non-profit 826DC to provide dedicated store space for student tutoring sessions and writing workshops. Also, Peet’s is now the new, official coffee of the Washington Nationals, D.C.’s Major League Baseball franchise, and will be served at Nationals Park.”
